"To Our Children's Children's Children" by The Moody Blues (Audio CD - 1997) - Original recording remastered
Here is what I enjoyed about each of these outstanding bonus offerings...
"Gypsy" (alternate version):
Sounds like a possible remix for the 1974 "This Is The Moody Blues" compilation had the song been chosen for that release! One difference in this version is that Justin's chanting (Before the "Left without a hope of coming home" parts) is louder in the mix, plus there are no backing vocals accompanying Justin's. I love the extended chaotic ending, and I get a kick out of the laughter and falsetto chanting at the tail end of the mix, probably from John Lodge. :) Justin's dramatic final vocal, edited in places and mixed more in the background on the final version, was well delivered, as well!
"Candle Of Life" (alternate version):
The vocals sound like they have less echo coming from them, on this mix. Also, the ascending piano chords, in the extended fadeout, were the highlight for me, and they sounded fantastic, too!
"Sun Is Still Shining" (extended version):
You can hear falsetto-like backing vocals behind Mike Pinder's singing, here, which is a pretty neat addition. Also, I didn't know there was a flute on this recording until the very end of the extended fadeout, and the piece is played very well by Ray Thomas! Fantastic! :)
The remaining tracks, from the David Symonds BBC radio show, sound almost identical to the performances from "Caught Live +5" (as noted in another review) except less songs appear on this disc, and both "The Voyage" and "Legend Of A Mind" are shorter versions, as performed here. Also, on this occasion, David Symonds introduces most of the tracks, before The Moody Blues start playing, and amusingly, he sounds like he is slightly chuckling when he introduces "Legend Of A Mind," for The Moodies! :) Mono sound quality on this performance, but it still sounds magnificent!
Just like the 1997 CD remaster of "To Our Children's Children's Children," this Deluxe Edition also featured a topnotch remastering job! I would recommend this release to any Moody Blues fan or collector. Thanks for reading! God Bless... :)

I recently pulled this one out after another reviewer told me it was his favorite Moody Blues album ( Bought this one when it first came out on vinyl and the CD's here as they came out). It is not my favorite by them, save that for "Seventh Sojourn" but excellent album in it's own right. I collect Moody Blues and have several versions of this title. I got this one due to the fact of the bonus material on the second CD. Some nice alternate tracks but what really made it special was the album itself. I always though "Candle Of Life" was a great track and worthy of a "B" side in which it was on a single release from the next album, though all the other tracks are standouts, like "Eyes Of A Child" & "Watching And Waiting". Another track "Gypsy" is another one I like, anyway, the album overall is excellent & a must buy for Moody Blues fans and this one for collectors. So check it out, listen to a few samples, see if you like it as much as did, it is a very good album, a 4 star rating in my opinion.

If you are a Moodies fan, you already know how great this music is, so I won't repeat what you already know. I had previously purchased just about every incarnation of this album; original vinyl pressing, Original Masters vinyl pressing, CD pressing and Original Masters CD pressing. But I was not prepared for the incredible sound of this SACD. I was originally worried that the 5.1 from the original Quadrophonic Tapes would sound gimmicky. My concern was erased as soon as I began to play this disc. Suddenly, there was a 3 dimensional soundstage that brought the band right into my living room. The clarity of the vocals and instruments is astounding. You can even hear the group clearly humming behind Ray Thomas' vocal on "Floating." The surround channels, for the most part, are used to bring the band forward, but with depth behind them. There are some tamborine sounds over your head, and occasionally some background vocals from the rear channels, but it is not overdone, and the result is very satisfying. I attended every Moody Blues concert in Los Angeles during the '70s. This disc captures that live sound perfectly.
If you have a 5.1 setup, and an SACD player, you will not regret this purchase. I will definitely buy the remaining SACD issues.
Is it really worth the higher price tag? It's worth twice that!

Once again, let's start off with some of the issues raised by others. First, as far as the cover being lighter- it always was on the first editions of the album. The cover wasn't darkend until the time of reissues. For a good example of this, pull out This Is The Moody Blues and see for yourself. Second, as far as the sound being different, it's because this is taken from the old quad mix(four channel) and not the two channel stereo. To take full advantage of the quad feature, producer Tony Clarke remixed the album in late '71. To my ears, this IS the best sounding version as the sound is much clearer than even on the MoFi editions and with this version you actually get a bonus disc of alternate takes/mixes and some BBC stuff. Although, I know some will still perfer the MoFi versions as they are of the original stereo. This album has become a favorite of many and it's easy to see why. The album is strong from beginning to end. Starting with the cool blast off sounds of Higher And Higher to the wonderful and bittersweet Watching And Waiting. This is one of those albums whhere it's impossible to pick favorites. I should point out that the BBC stuff is now available on the Moodies BBC release.

Very fine album - review here is about the sound
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on June 20, 2018
This review is not about the actual the music. I’m not a big Moody Blues fan, but they definitely were a band with an original and unique musical style and this album here is absolutely on of their finest, in my humble opinion. Some people believe that this SACD version is a great improvement sound wise, not in my opinion. I have an extraordinarily good stereo equipment - have not heard it on either a SACD player or in surround sound, only in ordinary stereo and here the sound way too highly compressed, which unfortunately results in a very muddy sound.
A mix as this where there have been used a good healthy amount of reverb, with a sort of broad palette of sound does definitely not benefit from such a treatment.
Unfortunately I haven’t had the chance to check out other CD versions, only the old vinyl I have and that sounds far superior to this remaster. Here the music can breathe and the dynamics are much better. Of course this is a recording of the 60th and therefore not super Hifi quality, but it has its own charm and warmth about it, and this is what should be preserved.
People has a tendency to think that this is a fault of the CD as a media, but they couldn’t be more wrong and I have no idea as to why some professionals believe that the output of CD remastering should burst out of your speakers like thunder. It definitely doesn’t improve the sound quality - much on the contrary!

The best Moodies album - now even better.

Released just after the moon landings in 1969, this album has many affiliated songs. This has always been one of my favourite albums, but this version which includes a second disc is the best. Disc 2 contains alternate versions, and versions performed at the BBC. Being remastered, the music is now so clear. I think that this album has passed the test of time, and I am so glad that I bought it.
