“If This Savage Song was a tense exploration of human nature, this sequel is the reckoning. ...Schwab folds questions of identity, morality, and judgment into her stunningly crafted narrative. ...readers will be hard-pressed to put down this action-driven finale.” (Booklist (starred review))
“The breakneck packing of the climactic latter half eventually resolves into a poignant ending. ...Schwab’s style is on point, as always. Happily, the many ardent fans waiting for this volume...[will] delight in the feels.” (Kirkus Reviews)
“Alternating between [Kate and August’s] immediate, propulsive perspectives, this sequel’s narrative reveals that each is still hunting the violence-created monsters that plague their alternate United States. ...Suspenseful action sequences are well paced, with affecting moments of understanding and tenderness, building to a satisfying ending.” (Horn Book Magazine)
“Masterly writing, a fast-moving plot, and just the right amount of bittersweet romance make this book hard to put down. A necessary first purchase for all teen collections.” (School Library Journal)
From the Back Cover
KATE HARKER isn’t afraid of monsters. She hunts them. And she’s good at it.
AUGUST FLYNN once yearned to be human. But no longer. He has a part to play. And he will play it, no matter the cost.
The war has begun.
The monsters are winning.
Kate will have to return to Verity. August will have to let her back in. And a new monster is waiting—one that feeds on chaos and brings out its victims’ inner demons.
Which will be harder to conquer: the monsters they face, or the monsters within?

THIS is probably my *NEW* fave Schwab book/series. I actually thought it would still be Vicious. I'm afraid, I'm a fickle human.
I also kinda love August now... more than Kell... I can't even... damn, fictional characters!
This book is essentially about Katherine facing her demons.
About Henry Flynn facing his fears
About August understanding what it means to be human
About the Malchai at the end of This Savage Song.
I couldn't have asked anything more from a sequel.
Still a perfect ending to a series, in my opinion.
This part of the story definitely focused a lot on Kate where she had the vast majority of the storylines. August felt very one dimensional until the end of the story where he started having more complex thoughts. I also loved the addition of Alice to the cast, and together, she and Sloan made a great and terrible duo. Some noteworthy mentions were Ilsa (always), the Chaos Eater, the new Sunai, Soro, and the Wardens of Prosperity.
On the downside, we never really get the origin of the Chaos Eater and that bugs me a little. Also, this story felt like one of those organised-faction-against-monsters type stories like Blade or Hellsing which I didn't like as much as the feeling of This Savage Song.
All in all, I still love the series and maybe, just maybe, we could revisit the world in the future.
Great storyline to follow the first Savage Song
Awful ending though, I love a good sad ending as much as the next guy
But bro, I was totally shipping August and Kate!!! This book as just shown me the true meaning of book hangover killing Ilsa was hard but murdering Kate?! I am so triggered right now
