A woman in her early 40s found out, while she was dating a man, whom she was in love with, that she was pregnant and when she told him, he said he didn’t want children. They parted ways. She decided to raise the baby on her own. She had a great support system, a career that she loved, and was about to have the child she always wanted. Things were going along smoothly, until that day in the doctor’s office when she found out that she had cancer.
She had a plan and along with that plan came the book that she was writing for her son. No holds barred. She was going to tell him everything. Her feelings for his father, her everyday feelings, what motivated her, why she chose her career, about his family, her sister, and her kids whom he would ultimately go to live with when she was gone. How she so loved her dear young boy.
Then one day, the young boy asked to meet his father.
Reading this book, you have the privilege of being inside someone’s mind. You hear the protagonist’s every thought, every emotion, her joy, her agony, although she hides it well, her sadness. Her longing to hold on. A touching story that is so relatable with feelings that whether, and goodness, hopefully not, you are suffering from a major illness, you can feel compassion for the mother, the boy, the father, and her family members.
A sure sign of a really, good book. When the author takes you down a road where there is a dark cloud looming but the protagonist has a sharp wit and still, she makes us laugh.
