As another racial injustice has surfaced in the last few weeks (too little, too late) involving the Emmett Till murder in 1955, people who do not understand the depth of prejudice in the South before and during the Civil Rights Movement need to read this book. Waights Taylor, Jr. provides a unique perspective of these attitudes through his upbringing at the time; an extensive, well researched biography of Rosa Parks; and a horrible miscarriage of justice involving nine young men in the Scottsboro trials. As a child of that period, Taylor forced me to remember and vow to never tolerate any form of prejudice again.
