Gardner Taylor's race has been run, wondrously run--and one wonders if we shall ever hear or see his like again. But it is most pleasing to see him worthily honored in this handsome collection of eighteen thoughtful essays from pulpiteers and academics from across the homiletical spectrum. Each essayist explores his or her chosen theme of homiletical interest but in doing so each uncannily documents how Gardner Taylor has beaten them to the punch. Thus,this book is both a worth-the-price textbook on preaching and a testament to the genius of Gardner Taylor. And, for the generation not privileged to know this Joseph, a CD capturing his voice and speech and wisdom is included, as well as a worthy sketch of his life, and a bibliography of works by and about this Titan of the twentieth century pulpit.

This is a festschrift for a man considered the Dean of Preaching, Dr. Gardner C. Taylor. Buying the book is worth it just for the essays written by such people as James Earl Massey, Timothy George, Robert Harris, and Wallace Charles Smith. Such a book honoring Dr. Taylor for his contributions to the preaching realm was long overdue. Excellent book for clergy and seminary students.
