"Audrey's love of nature and the national parks is equaled only by her love for people." -Juan Martinez, National Geographic Emerging Explorer, Wyoming "Audrey opens up the country to us in a whole new way. She weaves the beauty, history and culture she has found in our national parks into a spellbinding story that makes me want to get out there even more." - Rue Mapp, founder, Outdoor Afro, California "In Our True Nature, Audrey Peterman expresses the joy and wonder to be found in our national parks. Her effervescent words bubble with the enthusiasm she has for the parks and all they bring to humanity." - John Poimiroo, CEO, National Parks Promotion Council "Audrey's writing is so vivid, I feel like I am there with her, whether it's in the wilds of Alaska or the historic town of Harpers Ferry, Virginia. This is a welcome guide for anyone interested in history, beauty, nature, travel, adventure or just understanding what it means to be an American." -Al Calloway, historian and writer, Florida ________ Audrey Peterman is a national award winning environmentalist. A native of Jamaica and a citizen of the US, she and her husband Frank co-authored the book, Legacy on the Land: A Black Couple Discovers Our National Treasures and Tells Why Every American Should Care. I grew up in the countryside in Jamaica, in Rose Hill, Summerfield, where your identify comes from your family going back several generations. So I was not only Audrey Wright, but moreso "Mr. Wright's daughter" and "Mr. Butler's granddaughter." I did my homework on the banks of the river, solitary, engrossed with the life unfolding in the water before my eyes. When I came to America, I thought the cities were all there was. So when i discovered the expanses of beauty and nature in the National Park System, I went absolutely wild.

Audrey Peterman speaks to the core of our being, as we relate to nature. Connecting the innocence in us all to the bountiful image that is nature, is what binds me to this book. The book itself speaks to an innocence that can only be found in nature. Our True nature lends itself to the reader in that it creates a vision that encourages us to venture out into the wonderful wonders that surrounds us all.

Our True Nature is assembled in the style of Lonely Planet and written in very friendly, down-home style of someone oozing with enthusiasm and desire for all to share in the US National Parks. Even more interesting is her commentary on the unheard African-American contributions to the National Parks!

Audrey's anecdotes are a delight to read. A long-time US expatriate, she has inspired me to explore more of the parks that are closer to home.

This is the perfect book to jump-start the novice.

I look forward to the next volume that explores MORE of our national treasures.

For someone new to National Parks this book is an excellent guide that makes parks accessible to a very broad audience. For NP lovers this book makes you want to go back to places you love! I read this a little at a time over the course of a few weeks, soaking in the stories and reminiscing about my own visits to many of these parks. I also noted a few parks I haven't been to yet but am dying to explore like Denali.

Peterman is a colorful storyteller and once you start reading about her adventures in National Parks, I guarantee that if you don't already have a top 10 list of National Park sites you need to visit, you will after reading Peterman's book! I would recommend adding this book to your library or getting this book for friends or family members who may be contemplating their own National Park adventures. There are lots of great tips and information you can use for planning in the book as well.

Audrey has a poetic way of sharing her love affair with national parks with her readers. Her words go beyond educating us about our nation's treasures. In fact this must-have resource is the perfect guide showing you "What to do" when you get to your destination. This book made the perfect gift for family members and friends who are passionate about natural and man-made wonders. My five year old purchased his own book now talks about the all the national parks he wants to experience. This is the book that will be passed down in the family for generations as the go-to book on national parks. The diversity of these wonders is highlighted throughout the book and new discoveries are made on every page.

I thoroughly enjoyed Audrey Peterman's Our True Nature! Audrey did a fantastic job of painting a picture of each national park that she experienced. Personally, I was preparing for a trip to visit with the staff of the Boston African American National Historic Site for our organization's Youth Conservation Corps and OTN prepared me in every kind of way for my visit. I was so grateful for a book that I could use as a guide to our country's beautiful parks. If you have any interest in unveiling the beautiful landscapes that exist right in our backyards, Our True Nature is a must read!

What I loved most about reading "Our True Nature" is that Audrey Peterman's passion and love of nature takes over. Her knowledge from firsthand experience of our national parks runs through each and every word of the book. Her masterful and magical tone guides us through this adventure in a romantic girl-like way. It is full of American history if you're a lover of our diverse history and Audrey shares how it relates to all of us even today. She also laid out a beautiful pathway for future adventures as well. In addition to this, being the visual person that I am I really enjoyed all of the amazing photographs. I was there!
