If you're looking for a very basic cat scratcher, you really can't go wrong with this product. It's a very standard cardboard scratcher and the price is unbeatable. I know this is designed to be a "refill" for a product, but I use them as stand-alone scratchers. My cats (I have four) all love them. I've purchased cardboard scratchers in the past that had a weird smell from some sort of chemical that I guess is sometimes used in the manufacturing process. These DO NOT have any sort of smell at all, which is a huge plus. They are just plain, regular cardboard. The 2-pack that I ordered came with a small packet of catnip, which my cats really love. The packet of catnip is an ample amount and is plenty to sprinkle onto the cardboard scratchers to get your cats interested in them. My cats didn't need much encouragement to use these scratchers, but I sprinkled catnip on them on a daily basis for an entire week. Now, I often catch my cats sleeping on these scratchers. They really do love them!

We have three cats that love shredding things. This is much preferable to the furniture and doors. We've tried many scratching posts and pads made out of many materials. This corrugated cardboard is by far their favorite. (Other cardboard ones are fine, but this seems to be the size and shape they prefer, and is fairly inexpensive.) We buy the refills and just put them on the floor by themselves because they liked to pull the scratch pad out of the "Alpine" scratcher anyway. That's long gone (it was made of cardboard too, so our cats destroyed it), but we're still buying the refills.

True story: we just bought three 2-packs of these last week, opened one up and put one of the scratchers out, leaving the other two packages standing up against our treadmill. By the next morning, the cats had knocked over not only the second scratch pad but one of the still-wrapped 2-packs and started shredding that too, plastic and all. They love these. Every cat is different, but with these we're 3 for 3.

I brought this to go with the Kong scratcher it is pictured with but now I have two Alpine Cat Scratchers that don't fit the Kong so don't buy it for that. The other issue that I didn't realize is that the catnip goes right through all the holes and onto your floor. Not so horrid but means more sweeping and vacuuming. The last scratcher I had was in a box so the catnip stayed in the box but all the ones I've bought here, catnip ends on your floor. That said, cats like anything they can scratch on.

I got these to replace an alpine cat scratcher that had been completely clawed through by my cat. I placed them together for extra width, and my big Maine Coon has been treating it like her own personal throne. Very happy cat.

edit: Tips for use with this product-- 1. It's intended to be put into the alpine "mountain" so the cat can scratch at an angle. *Not all cats will enjoy this.* My cats did not like using the scratcher pad while it was in the alpine incline, but they love using it on the floor, because they can stand on it and hold it down and it's very sturdy. Cats are used to clawing up on trees and other extremely steady surfaces. If your cat isn't using the alpine scratcher, try simply removing the pad and placing it on the floor. 2. It is also intended to get clawed up and destroyed. It's cardboard. Cats' claws are tough killing tools. Expect to replace these once a year or so--though the one I had that I replaced was 3+ years old by the time it was basically unusable, and my cat used it every day, multiple times a day.

I know it's just cardboard, but my cats LOVE it, and the process of ordering and receiving said cardboard saved me time and staved off a few furniture scratches.

These items work well when you first get them but then my cat starts to eat the little pieces she scratches off. Of course that leads to vomiting them out later. Its probably best to pay up front and get the better quality scratching boards. You get what you pay for but if your cat doesn't eat the crumbs this will definitely work for you.

My cats love these cardboard scratchers. Probably one of the more affordable ones out there and a plus is that is comes with some catnip. These are just refills, they don't come with the fitted box. I bought a box and cardboard scratcher at Petco, and bought these refills thinking they would fit, they don't, but that was ok cuz I just fashioned my own. I think the company that makes these refills makes a ramp thing that fits these refills. I really like the fact that these are two sided, so when one side get too worn out, I just flip it so the cats have a " new" scratcher. Just a disclaimer if your a cat owner and never have bought this type of cat scratcher before, these can get messy, like small piece of cardboard everywhere, especially if you don't have a box or vessel for these scratcher to sit in.

I have purchased this item for several years and always found them to be a good buy. When I went to my retailer, Petco, to purchase I found that they had been dropped the Alpine product and replaced with their house brand. A quick look showed that the "house" brand was an inferior product and not a quality product to compete with Alpine. I found the Alpine product on Amazon and placed my order - that was delivered immediately.

When I opened the Alpine I saw that it had been improved from my last purchase and I can provide expert witness to the quality of the scratcher from a couple of cats who are very knowledgeable about this particular product. It remains, in my opinion, the best product of its type on the market and is priced so it is a good value. Its a very cheap investment to provide your cat with a nondestructive alternative to satisfy the need to scratch
