I have been waiting for this book since the first book, Ahead of the Darkness, came out. Out of the Darkness came out late last night. I started reading it this morning and couldn’t put it down.

This time we hear Drew's and Mia's point of view. We pick up where AOTD left off. Both Mia and Drew are dealing with their past. Because of the way AOTD ended, I can’t too many details away without spoiling the first book.

I loved how Mia dealt with the trauma that had happened to her. Her emotions felt real. She denied, cried, got angry and pushed through it. She found herself when she thought she had nothing. She got to fall in love with Drew again.

Let’s talk Drew. He’s gorgeous, sexy, over-protective Scot that melts your heart. His love and support of Mia is unwavering. Is he perfect at helping Mia? No. That’s why I love this story so much. It’s not perfect, but real. A person doesn’t know what to say always. While he seems outwardly perfect, his flaws make him seem obtainable.

We know from the last book that Drew has a past. When people are used to hiding, it’s hard to learn to share how you feel. In the end, Mia and Drew learn to share their feelings. They learn to stop hiding. He learns she is not going to break. She learns he needs her support too.

Yummy Drew quote “I want to make ye shiver with desire, tremble with need. “ There are other yummy Drew quotes you will have to find out on your own.

Simone Nicole does superb job writing about individuals who have suffered trauma and have relationships. Many times in the books I read, authors do go to one extreme or another. Either the characters are hardly affected by the trauma, or the author makes the story so raw, I do not find it enjoyable to read the story.

I find myself sitting here trying to do Out of The Darkness justice because I had been eagerly waiting to know Mia and Drew's fate, Ahead of the Darkness left me breathless, and desperate for more, and Simone Nicole not only lived up the expectations I had for this follow up novel, but surpassed them. Where AOTD was very much Mia's story, in OOTD we finally got to hear from Drew, see the incredible impact Mia has had on his life, and where I was expecting to see an alpha male, what I was so awed by was Nicole's ability to portray Drew with such depth, always the consummate alpha while still showing him as a man who was struggling to keep his head above water while the love of his life lies battered and broken in the hospital.

The thing is physical scars aren't the ones that cause the most damage, it's the emotional ones that run deep, they chip away at your sense of worth and can leave you feeling like a shell of your former self, struggling to remember who you are and whether you're enough. Simone Nicole delves into both Drew and Mia's emotional state of mind, giving the reader the sense that they are living through this horrendous time in their lives with them, as they both fight their way through their pasts and back to each other healed and whole.

I dove into OOTD with gusto, and found myself simultaneously trying to speed up and slow down, I wanted desperately to know that these two tortured souls got their happily ever after, while trying to slow down and savour the moment, to enjoy experiencing these characters who hold a special place in my heart and how far they've both come, both together and on their own.

This was a beautiful conclusion to Mia and Drew's story. I loved that we got to be in Drew's head. He is such a beautiful man through and through.

"Let me be yer superglue. I'll hold ye together until ye can heal on yer own."

And that's really what most of this book was about - Drew holding it together so Mia could heal. She became his number one priority and the way he looked after her was just gorgeous, even if he took it too far sometimes, his heart was in the right place.

Mia is one tough cookie though and no way near as fragile as Drew expects her to be. I love that about her and I also loved how she had her moments of uncertainty. Her doubts were real and very well written. I could feel her heartbreak and torment as she tried her hardest to escape her past. She grew as a person and became stronger - it really was a beautiful journey for both of them.

"Life isn't that simple; it's not black and white. You have to take the light with the dark, and all the shadows in between."

I already miss Drew! Simone has made the perfect sexy Scotsman here and I'm kinda sad to have reached the end. My thoughts are all with Scottish accents lately and she's to blame! Another 4.5 star read. I cannae wait to read more from this author!

I fell in love with the sexy Scotsman Drew McKinley in Simone Nicole’s first book Ahead of the Darkness.
Out of the Darkness is the follow up and it did not disappoint. I loved Drew’s accent, coming from a Scottish background myself made it even more enjoyable to read. The internal dialog of both characters was great and definitely entertaining Quote; I conclude that I’ve broken my head (I actually laughed out loud at this one, amongst many others.)
This book had me anxious to turn the page in fear of what would happen next. I laughed, cried big fat ugly tears and swooned in so many moments of this book.
I have too many favourite quotes from OotD but the two that stand out for me are; "I'm going to claim what's mine, and remind ye. I own ye." And the monumental quote; “I’ve got you.”
Well done Simone on a brilliant book, cannae wait for more!!!!!!!!
