The thing is physical scars aren't the ones that cause the most damage, it's the emotional ones that run deep, they chip away at your sense of worth and can leave you feeling like a shell of your former self, struggling to remember who you are and whether you're enough. Simone Nicole delves into both Drew and Mia's emotional state of mind, giving the reader the sense that they are living through this horrendous time in their lives with them, as they both fight their way through their pasts and back to each other healed and whole.
I dove into OOTD with gusto, and found myself simultaneously trying to speed up and slow down, I wanted desperately to know that these two tortured souls got their happily ever after, while trying to slow down and savour the moment, to enjoy experiencing these characters who hold a special place in my heart and how far they've both come, both together and on their own.
I loved everything about the follow up to AOTD, I loved the fear of the past, I loved that Mia and Drew gave the other a reason to fight the darkness that had plagued them for so long, I loved that these two recognised that sense of something broken in the other, I adored their banter, but more than anything I adored that these two loved each other's flaws, that they sought to be the others light.
Out of the Darkness starts off with a flashback, as to what we had left off with the first book, With Drew and Mia's POV this time. I love how both of them struggle and rise to overcome Mia's trauma, Drew being an alpha, and yet sensitive to Mia's need, sometimes to a fault, which honestly makes Drew more believable. He is still his sexy self, (since we can read Drew's POV) we can know and feel how Drew feels. I also like the fact that Mia comes out stronger in this book.
Overall, This book kept me on my toes. love the banter, their devotion to each other, making sure to let each other know that they have got each other. Out of The Darkness, I couldnae put it down book.
Good Job Simone! looking forward to more books from you!
Out of the Darkness is the follow up and it did not disappoint. I loved Drew’s accent, coming from a Scottish background myself made it even more enjoyable to read. The internal dialog of both characters was great and definitely entertaining Quote; I conclude that I’ve broken my head (I actually laughed out loud at this one, amongst many others.)
This book had me anxious to turn the page in fear of what would happen next. I laughed, cried big fat ugly tears and swooned in so many moments of this book.
I have too many favourite quotes from OotD but the two that stand out for me are; "I'm going to claim what's mine, and remind ye. I own ye." And the monumental quote; “I’ve got you.”
Well done Simone on a brilliant book, cannae wait for more!!!!!!!!
This time we hear Drew's and Mia's point of view. We pick up where AOTD left off. Both Mia and Drew are dealing with their past. Because of the way AOTD ended, I can’t too many details away without spoiling the first book.
I loved how Mia dealt with the trauma that had happened to her. Her emotions felt real. She denied, cried, got angry and pushed through it. She found herself when she thought she had nothing. She got to fall in love with Drew again.
Let’s talk Drew. He’s gorgeous, sexy, over-protective Scot that melts your heart. His love and support of Mia is unwavering. Is he perfect at helping Mia? No. That’s why I love this story so much. It’s not perfect, but real. A person doesn’t know what to say always. While he seems outwardly perfect, his flaws make him seem obtainable.
We know from the last book that Drew has a past. When people are used to hiding, it’s hard to learn to share how you feel. In the end, Mia and Drew learn to share their feelings. They learn to stop hiding. He learns she is not going to break. She learns he needs her support too.
Yummy Drew quote “I want to make ye shiver with desire, tremble with need. “ There are other yummy Drew quotes you will have to find out on your own.
Simone Nicole does superb job writing about individuals who have suffered trauma and have relationships. Many times in the books I read, authors do go to one extreme or another. Either the characters are hardly affected by the trauma, or the author makes the story so raw, I do not find it enjoyable to read the story. The writing in Out of the Darkness is done with balance. You feel the journey but it doesn’t overwhelm you.
Georgia, Jules, and Anne are great supporting characters. Even Mac redeems herself in the end.
I believe this is the end to their story. If there is another book Mia and Drew, I will definitely read it. Ahead of the Darkness and Out of the Darkness will be put on my “Must Read” list and re-read list.
I wrote this review, not because I got an ARC, but because this story was awesome.
