- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2025I enjoyed the stories from this book. Gives you an inkling of what happens to these men and women who watch our borders. They don't get the attention or respect they deserve.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2021I just have to share how much fun I’m having reading Rocky Elmore’s “Out on Foot”!
While known for his spine-tingling ghost encounters in places no one in their right minds would work at night, especially in the pitch darkness of Marron Valley, the best part of the book is the way he relays the work and traffic experiences.
From the academy, to the training unit to becoming a seasoned senior agent, he triggers so many memories, sights, sounds and smells that jump off the pages and drag you right back into the unit and out to the field!
Working at the El Cajon Station most of my career, I have driven all the same roads, opened all the same gates, hiked all the same canyons and ravines and worked the same traffic in all the areas this book talks about. It brought back a flood of memories.
While I haven’t had any personal encounters with the supernatural or paranormal (to my knowledge!) I can tell you I have seen lights in the sky and in the brush I can’t explain, heard the most bone-chilling sounds in the darkness while hours into the wilderness and away from any other human being, and many other situations I simply cannot explain while patrolling the southern border.
What a great read and thrill ride this is. I highly recommend it! (And yes, I have also been stalked by a mountain lion a couple of times according to scope operators in the same exact areas Rocky talks about!)
Thanks Rocky, for the guided tour of Border Patrol Operations along the Southern Border and all the sights, sounds and smells, and the details and nuances that go with it! Honor First!
Buy the book, turn off the lights, grab a beer, and wait for whatever is stalking you to come get ya!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2025I was going to take a week to read the book on a trip but was finished in a couple of days. Very interesting. I have lived close to some areas mentioned in the book. Nothing good happens after midnight!!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2025Entertaining and lets you see our LEO's as human beings just like us. The BP has a tough job. They deserve our support.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2024I not only enjoyed this book for entertainment, but I learned so much about what these border agents do. Both in training and on the job.
It’s well written, and it gave me a whole new perspective on how these men and women really put their own lives on the line every day and night that they’re out there on the job.
Really dangerous, , both with the people they encounter and the elements along with the dangerous wildlife.
All’s I can say is thank you for your service and dedication for what you do for our country.
Also might mention there is a spooky, paranormal environment too.
I had no idea what they really do and it gave me a whole new perspective and respect for their jobs. Thank you!!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2023This is a phenomenal read. You really get a good idea of what life is like for US Border Patrol Agents operating in the Otay Mountains outside of San Diego and the paranormal stories are an awesome bonus. All I can say is that I wish this book was longer because I don’t want the stories to end. If you’re interested in the paranormal and/or what life is like along the US/Mexico border for agents then this book is a must have. I wish there were more people with interesting jobs like Rocky Elmore who would come forward and write their strange encounters in the field and describe what their experiences were like.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2020I sought this out after listening to the author recount some stories on the podcast Spooked. Author is a good storyteller, but mixes personal views that had me pause reading now and then. I decided to skip over some of those parts because I didn't care about his opinion. I do appreciate the light the author shines on respecting the work of the men and women who work as border patrol agents and the descriptions provided of the dangerous terrain they work, often alone and in darkness.

Es mas bien un libro para saber algunas aventuras de los migras. Es un libro para entretenerte pero nada mas.

I dind't care much for the "paranormal" encounters; however, they are well narrated and often funny. I found it mostly an interesting insight of the work of border patrol agents.
Alex DaviesReviewed in the United Kingdom on December 16, 20245.0 out of 5 stars Scary and insightful
Genuinely interesting paranormal accounts at the border. Eerie tales that make you really think. Also loved the author’s detailed description of the everyday life of a border patrol agent. Fascinating. Great read. Great respect to these men and women.
