If this author wants to know how to protect a woman tell her to read the KGI series by Maya Banks. This guy knows nothing on how to protect this woman. Why does he keep getting left alone? Why do all they all keep using listed cell phone numbers and other stupid crap like that?
The loves scenes, or should I say lack there of are lackluster at best. She gives him a friggin hand job and then leaves before he wakes up the next morning? I am 80% done with this book and there is yet to be a single love scene.
All this and lets not even talk about the weak dialogue.
All this is bad but believe I could go on and on. However, the thing that makes this book one of the worst I have ever read was the fact that a child gets terrorized and murdered by his father. How could she have written such a thing and how can anyone give this book a positive review with that in it?
Worst book ever!!
Firstly, the novel was written in a very realistic way, which gave me more than once the opportunity to connect to what happened to Christa.
Secondly, the relationship between Rayne and Christa developed gradually and very lifelike, giving me the impression to be a silent observer. Both main characters and their thoughts were displayed in a very pragmatic fashion. What an excellent change compared to other novels of this kind where everything is just more than a superlative!
Thirdly, Christa was depicted as an independent young woman. Right......., there was this problem with her ex but this issue was also put in very realistic terms. On the other hand, Rayne was described as a classical alpha male and had to prove to everybody that he's just more than that. Which he definitely was! I absolutely adored the way he cared for Christa and dealt with her after what happened to her.
Fourthly, totally recommendable for lovers of this genre. There is just everything to make you happy: super heroine, tender alpha male, evil villain, interesting supportive characters, lots of atmosphere!
Christa has a landscaping business and plays baseball. She hopes to make the Olympic team. Seth is stalking her. He comes to every game and yells comments. One night he gets too close, following her to her truck. She drives to Teryl's house (a friend) in fear. Rayne happens to be at Teryl's home that night. Christa and Rayne start spending time together. Rayne is a local policeman. He advises and protects Christa from the stalker.
This is the first book in a series. Other reviewers recommend reading them in order. They also say the later books are better than the first two.
This was ok, but nothing special. It took too long for them to become intimate. I'm ok with delays, but the reasons here weren't good enough. Christa is insecure about having a relationship due to past experiences. She has always been drawn to Rayne, but she doesn't act like it. She thinks she's not good enough for him. She fears he will hurt her emotionally. She acts disinterested and tells herself "No clinging, Christa. Clinging is the surest way to make a man run in the opposite direction." So Rayne thinks she only wants a platonic relationship. Rayne wants to kiss Christa but is walking on eggshells trying to be patient. I was tired of the delay. It went on too long. Finally when Rayne started to kiss Christa for the first time, Teryl interrupts them (on purpose). Rayne should have kissed her after that, but he didn't. So the delay continued, and I was frustrated. Then after Christa was attacked and nearly dies, her fears caused more delay in their getting together. Eventually there are some sex scenes, but they are lukewarm.
I was angry at the heroine's stupidity. She is staying in special places due to fear of the stalker. Yet three times she goes outside alone and bad things happen. She even admitted later she should never have gone outside.
Story length: 288 pages. Swearing language: moderate, including religious swear words. Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: 5. Estimated number of sex scene pages: 17. Setting: current day mostly Vancouver, Canada, plus a few places in the United States (Oregon, Charleston, New Orleans). Copyright: 2008. Genre: romantic suspense.
