Oh the emotions! I'm pretty sure I went through every one possible while reading this book. Out of Mind had tons of ups and downs, as you can probably guess from the synopsis. After being injured in the line of duty, Finn's in a dark place place and he's pushing away the person he loves most in the world. His pain was evident on nearly every page of his chapters. Carrie is trying to help Finn, but preserve herself. She's at a complete loss of what to do. Riley's lurking in the background and I had some strong suspicions about him, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised by him. Carrie's father plays a larger part in this book, and while I had my doubts about him based on some of his words and actions in the previous books, I have to be honest and say that I really liked him in this book.
It was easy to get lost in Carrie and Finn's world during this book. I was completely immersed in their love, confusion and pain. Out of Mind deals with some pretty harsh realities and does it in a way that I found both informative and respectful. It absolutely breaks my heart to think about the number of soldiers who come back from service having seen some of the gruesome realities Finn faced in this story. I can only hope each of them has a support network to help them cope.
Jen McLaughlin is a genius. I have mad love for this series and these characters. Out of Mind is an emotional, tumultuous and absolutely perfect conclusion to a series I have loved since I read the first page of Out of Line.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ after reading ‘OUT OF MIND' by Author Jen McLaughlin (via: Booksmoviesfandoms.wordpress.c o m):
WHAT. AN. ENDING. This is the third and final novel of the ‘Out Of Line’ Series by Jen McLaughlin, titled ‘Out Of Mind.’ This was definitely such a bittersweet book to read, knowing that it was anticipated but also the finale to Carrie and Finn’s story. In this novel, you get to read the story from both Carrie and Finn’s P.O.V’s(point of views).
Carrie Wallington loves Finn with all of her heart and is willing to stick by him through his recovery, no matter what. Now that her parents know about their relationship, what else could stand in their way? She put all her fiery personality away and brings out a softer side in order to care for Finn while he recovers physically and mentally from his deployment. When he begins to push her away, she is left fighting to hold on but he keeps slipping through her grasp. She’s left feeling helpless while she watches the man she loves, fight his internal battles, alone…
Griffin ‘Finn’ Coram loves Carrie and had her on his mind through out his ordeal. He returned broken, damaged and feeling less than worthy of her love and of life, in some ways. No matter how hard he tries, he can’t help but push her away. While dealing with the tragedy of his deployment, more tragedy touches Finn’s life again, leaving him in a dark place. He needed to heal and pull himself out of that dark place but he doesn’t want to drag her down with him… no matter how much he loves her.
‘Out Of Mind’ takes you on such an emotional journey, with both heavyhearted and heartwarming moments. These moments will make you wonder if Carrie and Finn can fight to survive this journey together. Can love be enough? The story talks about Finn dealing with his P.T.S.D. after his deployment as well as dealing with a loss. Sometimes love means, letting someone go… and sometimes love means, never truly giving up on hope. This novel was the perfect ending to this series and to Carrie and Finn’s story in so many ways, I can’t express that enough. Thank you, Jen McLaughlin for writing a wonderful story with a perfect ending. I highly recommend not only this novel, but this entire series. Now, with the author note at the end of the novel I have to ask: What’s in store for Hernandez, Marie and Riley? Do I see Spin-offs in the future? Hope so! :)
My Blogging Reader's Star Rating for 'Out Of Mind' is 4 1/2 out of 5 stars! :)
