Out Of The Shadows
A picture-perfect Tennessee town has just become a monster's hunting ground. Two bodies are found tortured to death. A third person goes missing. What little evidence is left behind defies all explanation. Is the terror just beginning? Or have the good citizens of Gladstone harbored a dark secret for a long time? Sheriff Miranda Knight is determined to make her small town safe once more. And she does what she swore she would never do: involve FBI profiler Noah Bishop. He's the one man who knows about her unique abilities, and that knowledge almost destroyed her and her sister years ago. Now, as Bishop arrives with his team of agents, Miranda must learn to trust him and use her abilities once more. For they're about to go on the hunt for a killer whose madness has no bounds, a killer who knows exactly how to destroy Miranda: by preying on her sister.

THE STORY: Special Agent Noah Bishop has been searching for the woman he loves for more than eight years. Before she disappeared, Bishop made a terrible mistake that resulted in the death of most of his love's family. Now that he has found her again, he is determined to break through her walls and create a future with her.
Miranda Knight loved Bishop eight years ago until his actions destroyed her family and her trust. Her precognitive vision of the serial killer in the town's midst makes her contact Bishop. As sheriff in the town, Miranda has to find out who is killing the town's teenagers. She knows that it is time to reveal herself to Bishop even if she intends on keeping her emotional distance.
OPINION: I absolutely love this book. Bishop and Miranda are special characters with a painful past that they have to deal with. What I especially like is how much of the resolution is the two talking out the pain of the past and acknowledging mistakes. Their relationship is immediately intense and special. The supporting characters are well delineated and at appropriate times funny. The mystery of who is committing the murders is intriguing and suspenseful.
For me, the highlight of this book is the relationship and the tense, sexy, angst filled scenes between Bishop and Miranda are ones that I can read again and again.
WORTH MENTIONING: I loved how this book takes seriously the psychic abilities of both Bishop and Miranda and is internally consistent about the rules that govern their abilities.
FINAL DECISION: If you are going to read just one book in this series, read this one. It is by far the most balanced and compelling. The relationship between Bishop and Miranda is the center of the series and often I read the subsequent books only to hope for a glimpse of their continuing relationship.
CONNECTED BOOKS: This is the third book in the Bishop/Special Crimes Unit series and the final book in the opening trilogy. This book can be read completely independent of any other book.
STAR RATING: I give this book 5 stars!
Sheriff Mirands Knight is reunited with her former lover, Noah Bishop, who heads an unusal branch of the FBI. Because of old wounds and hurts fromt the past, Miranda is reluctant to accept Noah's help. But, her small town in Tennessee is being devastated by a vivious killer who is taking the town's teenagers and savagely butchering them. There are no clues, no way to contain stop this beast.
Noah is joined by two members of his team who also possess abilities of the unknown. Together they team up with Miranda to battle the deadly evil that has invaded the town and is stiking its innocent people.
Ms. Hooper outdid herself on this one. Just like the first book in this trilogy, there are numberous characters that contribute to the story. You find yourself caring, hurting, and rooting for them. There is some comical relief in this book which keeps it from being too dark. I sincerely hope Ms. Hooper starts another trilogy with emphasis on the unknown. I'll be the first in line to buy!
Get this book, find some place to read uninterrupted, and get ready for the ride of your life. If you haven't read the first two in this series, you're in for a treat!
If anyone knows of books that are similar in subject matter and great to read, please drop me a line. This was fascinating.
