The death sentence of slavery is still a harrowing reality for far too many—both young and old—despite the improvements of the 21st century. Bruce Ladebu and his team are determined to rescue as many as possible, to bring slavery to an end, and to provide food, shelter, education, and freedom to as many of these oppressed people as they can. Out of the Slave Fields shares the heartfelt, true stories of child labor today and the rescuers who have made it their mission to get justice for children. You will learn how the Children's Rescue Initiative began, its impact on the lives of the liberated, and how you can be a part of the ongoing mission.

Our "vanilla" lives dislike being confronted with the darkness that is rampant throughout the world. We tend to process people, in all cultures, through our own world view which, in turn, has been shaped through our own mostly-limited challenges of life. We observe some darkness around us, but never really "see" it and turn blind eyes and deaf ears to it. We believe that no one we know, and certainly not our own selves, would ever harm another person intentionally...so we tend to extend that self-comforting belief and apply it to all people. But such is not reality. Reality is ugly and brutal, beyond what our "vanilla" lives can even begin to comprehend from the cozy nooks of our sheltered lives. Bruce's book will rip that blinder off your eyes, and you won't like what stares back at you. But it is also vitally necessary that the darkness is exposed so that true light can bring hope and life where before existed only pain beyond our understanding. As William Wilberforce, the well-known leader against the slave trades, once declared, "You may choose to look the other way, but you can never say again that you did not know." This book compels the reader to keep moving forward - to feel the pain of the slaves, their bewilderment, as well as their hopelessness and despair. But the storytelling also rivets you, holds you, and brings you to rejoice in the freedom of the many, even while crying for those who remain imprisoned. May we all choose to look...and then find a place to act.

“There aren’t many books that truly pull on my heart strings, “Out of the slave fields-liberating children from brick kilns and brothels” was one such read.

Powerfully emotional read that delves deep into the truth and the minds of those doing the rescuing.

Chapter after chapter will have you on an emotional rollercoaster as you experience the first hand accounts of these women and children and what they had to endure before men and women said ENOUGH and did everything within their means to get them out of the hell they called slavery.

One chapter was more emotional than most. Chapter 28- Yetis story (my story)

If not us, then who? If not now, then when?
There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of the children still trapped in a life of violence and abuse. I cling to psalm 82:3-4, and know that I am doing all I can, for my actions speak louder than any voice can.

You truly can make a difference.”

This book gives great first hand accounts of the thoughts and emotions that most will never face. The subject of child trafficking is to ugly for most to comprehend. They allow the news to come in one ear and leave the other quickly to preserve their own perceptions. An autopilot self defense mechanism to maintain one’s comfort and peace of mind.
Robbing the innocence of a child is the greatest violation of human morals I can fathom. We must acknowledge the existence of evil and work collectively to liberate those enslaved to a hopeless existence. Not everyone can strap on boots and head into dangerous areas to free the oppressed, but we can all do something. Financial donations for organizations active in the fight are essential. The work is not done until they have been loved, educated and provided with a path to recovery which will take years.
Thank you for a great book and opening so many eyes to this modern day tragedy. Above all, thank you for saving so many precious lives.

This book was both difficult to read and difficult to stop reading. It is one of the best I've ever read. Our society has been isolated from the truth of the economics of world slavery. The idea that brothels still use small children as sex slaves in many countries is unfathomable. And even though we all are aware of the emergence and sustainability of human trafficking in the US, Bruce helps you understand how it is all connected and how we must support putting an end to this vile, evil industry. Bruce takes us to the level of human connection worldwide. I was deeply moved when Bruce talks about how victims are dehumanized in slavery - and I could easily understand that. But he explains how the abuser is also dehumanized in the treatment of slaves. That dehumanization is so evil and thankfully the moments of pure joy I felt when rescues took place helped me qualm my own hatred of those that commit these crimes. Bruce is driven to exterminate that evil and takes you on a journey that is so real and so driven by faith. The preparation to rescue (physically, emotionally, spiritually) is profound. And just as all of us experience profound truth when it is presented to us, we are exhilerated when the abusers are faced with the truth of who they are - even if it is not sustained. Do yourself a huge favor and read this book to understand more.
