"The author does an excellent job at portrayingserendipitous human connection ... and I was moved by the tenderportrait of a dog trying to find a place he can call home after hisowner has been ripped away from him by a sudden moment of tragedy.
"Whether you're a sucker for medical drama or, like me, more interested in theside of life on the other side of the operating room doors, you'll findsomething worth reading in Outcome ... the book blew me away by showing quiet moments interspersed with the tense drama that comes with saving a life." -- San Francisco Book Review, 2017

"A beautiful story of the ultimate gift!
"I really enjoyed this book. There were several story lines that cametogether beautifully. This story is a testament to organ donation andthe lives it can touch. From those who have lost a loved one, to thosethat are given the miracle of life through that devastating loss.
"This book has something for everyone in it, even dog lovers. I'm not goingto tell you anything about Whiskey/Putt-Putt/Sandy." -- Sandy Wolters, Author
"Intertwined with a clever combination of characters dealing with their own absurd situations, Outcome, a Novel is an ambiguous, dramatic medical novel based on hurricane Ivan (2004) and its aftermath. An urgent and horrifying evacuation from the approaching disastrous storm leads Karen's family to deal with a heart wrenching tragedy that interweaves lives of two strangers into a spellbinding camaraderie.
Author Barbara Ebel's knowledge and experience in the medical field is evident through her multilayered anecdote that is tender and touching. Poignant yet brilliantly narrated, Outcome, a Novel is a masterful read that is sure to captivate readers and sympathize with authors life like characters.
Thought provoking, incisive and enlightening, author Ebel's novel is a remarkable work of well rounded consciousness that promotes the cause of organ donation. Fans of the genre and readers coping with their own losses may find this powerful page turner particularly effective. Highly recommended, Outcome, a Novel is a wise and sad coming of age story showcasing how people are shaped by their circumstances.-- Enas Reviews, 2017
From the Author
For readers familiar with my medical suspense novels - the Dr. Danny Tilson Novels and the Dr. Annabel Tilson Novels - please be aware that Outcome is not a medical thriller. It is a medical fiction novel which revolves around a liver transplant and it also falls under 'historical' fiction because it brings to life the events surrounding Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
My background as an anesthesiologist doing liver transplants gives me the knowledge to write such a novel and, also, I was personally involved with Hurricane Ivan's destruction.
I hope you enjoy Outcome. It's a soulful story of multiple lives coming together due to a disaster and a medical crisis, and the life of a dog caught in the middle.

Dr. Ebel is a master at writing medical dramas. Her background allows detailed views of the complicated course of organ transplantation. A lot of the jargon was over my head, but gave a good sense of the amount of work behind the scenes and the dangers inherent in the procedures. I found it fascinating.
Well-written and fast-paced, the tension will keep you turning pages well into the night. She manages to balance grief and hope, sadness and joy, disaster and recovery. Read it!!
The story is pretty light reading, despite the gravity of its subject. It is a cute story that begins with a tragedy that leads to a happy ending. It is an interesting look at the behind the scenes activities entailed by organ donation and organ transplants. The story is written by an author who has first hand experience in the field. While the story is light reading, the overall message is very important. Our personal tragedies can become other people's miracles. It made me think about my own choice to be an organ donor, and I checked my identification to make sure that no further signatures are needed to make sure that my organs are available to those who are in need of a miracle, should the worst befall me.
