Extended usage update- I bought the Martin brand over the Camp Chef and the Coleman due to its higher oven temp rating. The oven heats up to 350 in about 10 minutes, it's top end temperature seems to depend on the ambient temperature and air flow around the oven. I can easily keep it at 425 or 450 for my pizzas, keeping in mind that I am inside a big truck not out in an open camping area. Most of the stuff I bake needs to be around 350 degrees, while the oven does not allow you to set a specific temperature I don't have much problem adjusting the knob to a specific point to maintain 350. The only problem I had with the oven was very easily remedied. Everything I cooked on the middle rack was burning on the bottom. I do cook strictly in cast iron, I do not know if regular bakeware has this problem but if you do... I took a disposable 8x8 aluminum cake pan, cut the sides out of the pan leaving the lip of the pan, the corners for pillars, and the bottom and set the pan upside down in the bottom of my oven. The holes in the sides allow the heat to flow into the oven and then the bottom of the pan is deflecting the direct heat so as not to burn the bottom of what I'm cooking. I am out here on the road eating baked chicken livers, lasagna, meatloaf, scalloped taters and homemade pies!
The oven heated up very fast on my test. It climbed to 450 degrees within about 6 minutes. It's better than my oven at home. I was initially worried about the flame on the top burners as it didn't seem very strong, but it was just my nervousness, because the pan heated up just like on my induction cook top unit at home. Further, the outside of this unit remained cool to the touch, even when I had both burners and the oven going at full tilt. I am very happy.
This unit is 40 Lbs, and is much bigger in real life than you might imagine from the pictures. For me this is no problem, for someone with limited space, or a bad back, this could be a deal breaker. Make sure to read the published measurements. They are NOT exaggerating. This is a big camp stove. If you are looking for something tiny and compact, look elsewhere. If you want to be able to cook big meals like you can at home, with the freedom to cook whatever, whenever, then this is the unit for you.
I can't wait to take this beauty out on the road. I love to cook, and this lets me do everything I want to without compromise.
