The Cirque Pants are durable, technical soft shell pants built for high-energy climbing and skiing in alpine environments. The highly-breathable, wind-and weather-resistant double-weave, stretch woven fabric excels in high-mountain conditions, making them great do-it-all soft shell pants for hiking, climbing or ski touring. The zippered thigh pocket ensures energy bars and maps remain accessible and the trim fit allows for dynamic movement without excess fabric snagging on rock or jagged ice on your way to the summit.

My size is between 30-32. Small was just too tight. They come with cinches which allows you to make the pants smaller and you can use a belt too. So don't make the same mistake i did. If you are approx 140 pounds 5'9 buy the mediums, if you use jeans around 30-32 buy medium!. If your jean size is 28 small will be great for you.
They are a softshell, but they've repelled wet snow for me as well. Even while trudging uphill (sweating) in a wet snowstorm they've done fine by me. They're now my favorite outerwear for my legs in winter.
The Cirque Pants do have a couple of small drawbacks. The pockets are very form fitting. Anything you put in them will print. I forgo carrying a wallet when wearing them. A thin pocket pocket knife and lip balm is about all I try to stuff in there. The pockets do have a mesh liner, so keeping them empty gives you the option to use them as vents.
Overall the OR Cirque surpassed my anticipations. They are light. breathable, weather resistant and very durable. I have since been wearing them in an urban environment to shovel snow and the occasional trips out in the light rain. I can't wait to get them out in the back country again. I am planning some mountaineering courses next year and these will be my go-to soft-shell pants.
Now I am looking forward to trying a set of Outdoor Research Men's Prusik Pants, 36, Black for the warmer months.
