Like magic, the Ferrosi Hoody is never too hot but always blocks wind and light rain high off the deck. The highly breathable soft shell construction offers stretch for smooth movement and tough, abrasion-resistance for rough and rugged alpine and rock environments. Ideal for dawn-to-dusk climbing objectives or early-season skiing. It's easy to see why the Ferrosi has become a favorite of OR Ambassadors and staffers. "I use this jacket all the time-cycling, running, ice climbing, climbing, hiking, everything. I have a warmer softshell and hardshell, but this is my favorite everyday piece. Integral as part of my layering system in the winter or summer." Outdoor Research Customer Review.

Also, during both trips we got light rain and some dry snow. In both cases the jacket did its job and shrugged it off. I cant comment on how long the DWR layer will last, but for now it is performing well, and it can always be rejuvinated with other products if needbe. If we got any heavier rain I would have put on my hard shell.
I ordered a Medium and it fits me very well. I would call it an athletic slim cut. Not tight on the body, but snug without baggyness. This is what you want if you will be putting this over your base layer. Also since its slim it leaves room for adding thermal layers and shells on top.
The chest pocket is nice and in a good location. I kinda wish that the hip pockets were a little higher so that harnesses or backpack hip straps dont get in the way of it, but its a minor concern. I like it better the way it is for day to day wear.
My only complaint about the product is that the elastic drawstring that tightens around the hips popped off from the inside.. I am already out of the return period, so I will have to fix it myself. This will involve sliding the elastic back into the jacket and sewing it in place. For that I'll deduct a star. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the value this jacket has provided for the price.
While they advertise it as OK in light rain, I found that even if a little drizzle the material became uncomfortably damp, but that is a minor issue and did offer some protection until I put on a more suitable garment.
I have a number of the O.R. Ferrosi pants made of the same material. I have worn them hiking, bushwhacking and climbing in rocky terrain on my hands and knees in the Adirondacks Mountains and the material has held up looking like new. The jacket is made of the same material so I know it will hold up to almost any abuse I will put it through. It is easy to clean in the washing machine and it dries quickly. The color of the evergreen looked different from photo to photo in the description. I noticed that depending on the lighting conditions the evergreen is bright and other times it is more subdued, I do not know why but I like it.
The fit is great. I have a large chest 50 inches, my waist is 34 inches. The cut of the jacket is well done. I was afraid it was going to be baggy or large in the stomach area and it is not. The stretch material make it comfortable and easy to wear a heavier layer underneath like the thermal ball vest and jacket I have.
The seams on the shoulders are not centered making it very comfortable when carrying a backpack. The material seems like it will hold up to miles of carrying a backpack. The pocket depths are good so my gloves and hat stay in them without having to zipper them closed. When wearing it around and in and out of the car my car keys and even my wallet stay secure without needing to zipper them closed. The breast pocket is nice and large for carrying glasses, cell phone or a wallet.
Being able to pack the jacket into the the left hand waist pocket is good. Having the secured loop inside that pocket so you can hand the jacket from your pack is GREAT. The elastic on the sleeves is tight enough to keep it from going over your hand but is not so tight that it is hard to take the jacket on and off.
All of the zippers and hood /waist drawstrings are made of top grade materials.
This jacket is making all of my outdoor activities better than ever before. I will be purchasing another in a different color combination
