So my Transcendent Hoody arrives and the first thing I always do with clothing items is try them on. Parka goes on, I flop the hood on, and zip the jacket all the way to the chin. The silky liner feels buttery soft and warm. I hold my arms out in front of me and then cross my arms across my chest and the fit is perfect and not tight on my shoulders. I take the jacket off and go over it inside and out. This jacket has all the bells and whistles: large outer zip pockets, zip chest pocket, hood fits, large inside pockets, outer fabric is not loud and scritchy sounding...it seems like the real deal.
Whenever I get a new winter jacket I give it a trial run in the cold by wearing only a thin base layer, a fleece cap and gloves. I get all zipped up and out the door into the 20 degreeish night and go for a walk. I’m walking a couple of minutes and then I feel these cold spots in various places on the jacket, cold enough for me to halt this exercise in futility. It appears that this near-perfect jacket has one unfortunate flaw...
Someone forgot to put enough down in the down jacket.
WARMTH, WHERE YOU CAN FIND IT IN THIS JACKET IS DELICIOUS, BUT WHEN THE DOWN IS LACKING AND YOUR TEETH START CLACKING... YOU IMMEDIATELEY HEAD BACK TO THE HOUSE AND WONDER WHAT HAPPENED.
Bottom line is this jacket is great in every every area but warmth.
I like the look and fit but most importantly it does its job and keeps me warm.
Jacket is light but feels a little fragile compared to the other down jackets I've had in the past. Stitching upon inspection doesn't look that solid. A few threads have popped in a week of use. Nothing major.
I'm heading into the Sierras in a few months and will update more after using it in the field.
Great pockets (2 handwarmer 1 outer chest with separate inner mesh pocket inside to stash sensitive items. )
Wrist cuffs were elastisized BUT in my opinion should be tighter because over time they may stretch out.
Hood is 3 way adjustable and fits GREAT!
Fabric is NOT DWR coated and will not resist moisture well.
Toasty comfortable puffy better suited to cold dry days.
