The western story is about a saloon owner (woman) and a gunslinger. Does this sound like Gunsmoke? Well, it isn't at all like a TV show of any ilk. The outlaw/gunslinger rides into town and rents a room over the saloon. Just his presence scares some residents who believe they are on a hit list. And the other bad guys...he outguns them. Soon he gains popularity with a lot of residents, he even has friends.
Of course there is a bad guy trying to take over the town, there is a sheriff who seems to look the other way, there are gold mines and saloon girls. The bartender and his kid are great, everyone should fall in love with them.
Did I say it is funny? Well, I laughed all the way thru it...it is very human...we see people we know and love in the characters.
I highly recommend this book.
Well, I guess I need to re-read some books, or perhaps the books have just improved dramatically, because I really enjoyed this one. There's the typical romance novel situation where one person is lying, and events conspire to keep them apart, but it was honestly enjoyable instead of feeling like a forced storytelling device. The characters were authentic, dialogue was good, and this little western town was painted brilliantly and vividly. If you are looking for a great, brief, romantic escape, this is your book :)
