Sit yourself down in the 19th century. Think of the first woman to run for office -- Victoria Woodhull. Now imagine a brilliant black man as her running mate -- Frederick Douglass. Fireworks? You bet. Now imagine two women who had the first woman-owned seat on the stock exchange. Victoria and her sister. An uproar? Indeed.
Neal Katz's rendering of Victoria's rise to riches, told in first person, is a brilliant read. And for those who love Historical Fiction, 'Outrageous' is a must.
Also ... the holidays are coming. The book is gorgeous and would make a fine gift for anyone, politico or not.
The book focuses on a surprisingly strong, resilient woman who is called upon to rise above terrible circumstances and who applies her brains, friendships, and other available (and sometimes not so obvious) resources to do it. As I read about her, I also learned history in an easy-to-digest way. I highly recommend this book!
I've recommended this book to all my friends.
I am excited to read Book II when it comes out of this trilogy. And I can't wait to see it up on the 'big screen' too!
Neal has taken an untold tale, and created a modern day drama worthy of every contemporary woman's careful deliberation and embracement.
