When I read the synopsis for Outside The Lines by Lisa Desrochers I knew I had to read this book. Once I began to read this book I became immersed in the characters world. Their story came to life and I couldn't predict which direction the next page was going to take. Outside The Lines stands on it's own merit in the romance genre, the romantic suspense genre, the new adult genre, and the organized crime romance sub-genre. This book will attract readers of all ages. But what stood out the most about this book was the family dynamics and how they dealt with their life situations. It was beautifully written, easy to become immersed in, a page turner, and pulled at all of my emotions. When I finished the book I was wanting more of the Delgado family. I wanted to see which direction the Delgado family would take next and what sibling was going to be affected most my their choices.

What happens when your family is placed in the witness protection program because your father, the head of an organized crime family, is sentenced to prison? The Delgado children are in this position. Everything they have known in life is gone within moments. Their lives are at stake. Their future is not promising. They are having to learn to live a new simplistic lifestyle, which to most people would be normal, but to them is as foreign as stepping into another country. Their lavish lifestyle is now reduced to small town living and generic labels. Their educations, future professions ( including becoming the next Boss), and ambitions have been re-altered into something they have to make fit. They've had to step outside of their dreams and become something they never imagined. The only thing that is working in their new lives is the fact that they are all still together.

4 I wanna do naughty things with Rob Delgado stars
Le sigh. I am saying Robert Delgado out loud right now because it just rolls off my tongue. I can’t even think of a better name for him. In a nutshell: Rob is sexy dangerous thing, Adri is naive (and sometimes she came across as a busy body), the romance ended up awesome and the storyline itself was outstanding. All in all a great, fast paced, action packed story with a hot romance and mob drama…I loved it!

I am addicted to mafia stories. I really, really am. This one didn’t disappoint…it had the blackmailing, the double crossings, the violence, the money, the sexy men, the hit men, I could go on. I devoured that part of it. I thought for a while it was clear what would happen, I thought I knew where alliances stood, but I was wrong and I loved that!

So now that you know I loved the story itself, let’s talk about the MCs: Rob and Adri. Rob almost immediately said Adri was his kryptonite. Eep, I mean, he barely met the woman…so initially it didn’t work for me and felt like insta-love. I don’t mind insta-lust, but I’m just not a fan of insta-love. He said he wanted to tell her things, but they had hardly even spoken at all, it was just her look that got under his skin…which made the chemistry feel forced. Don’t get me wrong, I liked him and I liked her, and I did want them together, but at a more natural pace.

However, once I kept reading and Rob and Adri did develop a relationship, I found that the chemistry really grew on me. Adri’s feelings towards Rob’s were a little more believable than his towards her in the beginning, but eventually it evened out and I sat back and enjoyed it even though it happened in such a short time frame.

The sex was hot and that insta-lust I could get on board with.

Rob is the oldest of five siblings who are the children of a mafia kingpin. Their mother has died (been killed) and their father is in prison; their lives are in danger and they have been located to a “safe” home in a witness protection program. Rob is torn between upholding his father’s violent legacy, being the leader and taking care of his brothers and sisters, and walking away from the life he’s known and embracing freedom.

He crosses paths with Adri, who, although somewhat spirited, has been sheltered by an over protective father and life in a small town community. Adri, of all the characters, seemed a little artificial in her positive, Pollyanna goodness; maybe it’s because she contrasts so sharply with the others. Adri is like a character in a chick-light romance, but she has been dropped into a story-line that is a darker, harder type of romance. But, what the heck, I liked her and I liked the chemistry between her and Rob. The suspense/drama/mafia action stays in the background until the last part of the story. I give this book a good rating because it is very readable, and I had no problem finishing it. The real test of a book for me is “am I still thinking about it and wanting to read it again after a few weeks?” The answer for this book is yes.

I was intrigued by the oldest sister Lee and the obvious set up for the next book in the series with her and the son of the mafia family responsible for taking down Rob and Lee’s father. I’m certain I will be reading that book when it comes out.
