"There is something so uniquely compelling about The Outskirts. The forgotten, swampy Florida town and its characters came completely alive for an unputdownable one-sitting read. I can't wait to go back in The Outliers."-Ana's Attic Book Blog
"The Outskirts is a visceral and utterly gripping love story of the forgotten ones. With her raw and magnetic prose, Frazier ignites all the feels as she takes her readers on an emotional, palpable, and poignant journey of two broken lost souls. Two strangers. One collision. Two hearts intertwining. Two souls becoming one. Buried secrets that could ruin it all. And one outcome." -Michelle Tan, Goodreads Reviewer
"Another scorcher from T.M. Visually compelling, simplistic yet profound, full of heart-warming earthiness. This story will warm your heart and make you believe in love." -Shabby, Bookbistroblog

Sawyer was raised in an extremely conservative church group, with her and her mother being abused by her monster of a father. When her mother dies after "accidentally" stepping in front of a car, Sawyer finds a box her mother left her with a letter from her mother with a deed to a piece of land in Outskirts, Florida. She hatches a plan to escape from her abusive father.
Finn has been a literal recluse for the past two years, after tragically losing someone he loved. Not knowing how to deal with the pain and guilt, he moves into a shack in the swamp, cutting everyone out of his life. Until one day, when he almost runs over a girl broken down on the highway, who he later finds out owns the little piece of land right outside his door.
I really enjoyed watching the interactions between Finn and Sawyer. Not a whole lot of time passes before she has wormed her way into his broken heart. It felt a little fast to me, but then again, when "the one" finds you, you know if heart and soul.
I loved how Sawyer's natural goodness drew so many people to her. Her strength was amazing. Here is this girl that basically grew up in a bubble, sheltered to the point of isolation by the church her father belonged to. Having to dress a specific way, pray a specific way, only allowed to read approved books, not allowed to watch TV. Missing out on pretty much everything a girl her age should have already experienced. So when she runs away and lands in the little town of Outskirts, it was heartwarming to watch her experience so many firsts.
We get a lot more chapters in Sawyer's point of view than we do Finn's, so there is still a ton of stuff I would love to learn about him. From the flashbacks we got, I understand what he's been through in his life, but I feel like there is a lot of untapped potential in that storyline, and as much as it should be the past since Finn has started to heal and build a relationship with Sawyer, I want to know more about that part of his life. Perhaps it will rear it's ugly head in book 2 and give us some angst and heart stopping moments.
T.M. just loves to leave us on a cliffy!! And I have to admit, this one I did not see coming at all. I knew going in the book ended with a cliffhanger, we have a whole other book coming so there has to be something, right? So while reading, I tried hard to figure out what that OMG moment was going to be, and I thought for sure I had it figured out. But NO! It was something I wouldn't have even considered! I can't wait to see how T.M. explains this!! AND that "thing" that I thought it was going to be? Well, that could still happen.... I can't wait for the 2nd book to see how this story comes to it's conclusion!
Sawyer Dixon escaped her life in North Carolina after the death of her mother. Her mother left her a deed for a piece of land in the swamps of Outskirt, Florida. It was all the permission Sawyer needed to escape her abusive father and the church that ruled her life. It didn't matter that she had never stepped outside her religious community nor did it matter that she didn't know a living soul in her new home. It was freedom.
Coming to the Outskirts was an eye opener. For one thing, the town is almost a ghost town. The job opportunities are void. Her new neighbor is hostile. The town sheriff is determined to help her in anyway possible. The only bar/restaurant is willing to hire her without any experience. No one seems to know who her mother was but it is clear that her mother was very much a part of this community years ago. Sawyer sees every aspect of the Outskirts as an opportunity in her new life.
Finn Hollis, an Outskirts notorious citizen, has lost himself after experiencing a life changing tragedy. He retreated to the swamps and withdrew from the living until Sawyer Dixon showed up in his swamp. Suddenly he's discovering that life goes on and he may want to jump back in. Sawyer's determination, innocence, and tenacity awakens his desire and need to protect. She has earned his respect and is quickly winning his heart.
They are both beginning new lives in the Outskirts but trouble is rolling in. Cliffhanger.
T.M. Frazier captured the spirit of small town life in Florida as well as delivering a sensual, heartwarming romance that is loaded with intrigue and suspense. I can't wait to see what happens next!

This is definitely not the down and dirty, gritty world of King and company, but it is definitely all TM Frazier style.Read more
