And while the subtitle indicates the book's focus on church communication, the ideas contained within are not lost on those working outside of the church (like myself). Many of the insights delivered about leveraging social media and new media for a re-imagining of the gospel story translate well to the professional world. That said, I would recommend this book for anyone whose profession requires a high level of creative communication.
Great work guys!
Yes, I used the marketing word. Running a successful anything requires marketing. Most churches are terrible at marketing themselves or they don't even make an effort to do it at all. Maybe you are one of these people and maybe your ministry or church needs help. I can hear the thoughts rambling through your mind: "Where do we begin? How do I go from no marketing and communication strategy to having one? Where do I learn about Church communications?"
The answer: Outspoken: Conversations on Church Communication.
Tim Schraeder, along with a 60 other amazing people, has compiled a must have book to help you, your church or your non-profit to develop not only a marketing how to, but communication strategies and inspiration to change the way you do things. This gem of a book was compiled and edited by Tim Schraeder, a leading voice online and for the Center for Church Communications. Tim locked arms with some of the country's top influencers to produce a resource that needs to be added to your resource library. Gleaning for hundreds of combined years of experience Outspoken will equip with the tools to not only help you start a communication strategy within your organization, but also tweak the ones you already have.
I absolutely love the chapter for small churches from Kevin Hendricks, powerful stuff for any sized church. This book is an amazing tool that will help so many churches improve their communication skills and strategies. Each chapter is creatively titled, my recommendation is to read the book slowly. It is an easy read, but there are so many great tips and ideas that you won't want to fly through this book. After you read a chapter, write a new title in the table of contents that summarizes what you learned: one, maybe two words. This way you can utilize this great resource for years to come and maximize your ministry potential. Pick up a copy of Outspoken and you will not be disappointed.
