The dog and I were happy to see the package at the front door

Came on time (thanks Amazon). The dog and I were happy to see the package at the front door. Just in time for me to cook dinner and keep her out from under foot. About 20 minutes into my prep work I decided to go see how the pup was doing. She was great, however the
Outward Hound Kyjen 30005 FireHose Squeak and Fetch Dog Toy was ready for the trash. She had the end opened (along the seams, which usually goes first in about three days) and was tearing apart the hose section and was starting to pull out the stuffing within 20 mins(the hose with other brands last about 2 weeks before the trash takes it.). If I would have gotten 2 weeks from this chew toy that would have been expected, longer would have been a surprise, but under 20 mins, really disappointing.

Stuffed with unexpected floof, and not for heavy chewers

I have dogs that like to take stuff apart. We always monitor them with toys to take things away as needed, but they aren't interested in eating anything in the toys. We found a set of firehose toys lasted longer than most toys we give them, so we thought we'd give these ones a try. They seem to be a lighter weight or maybe a difference in materials, but they didn't seem as heavy duty, so the girls chewed right through them in under a minute., and it had a lot of poly fill inside, which I wasn't expecting since previous toys we had purchased in this group did not have any stuffing. So just be aware. We likely won't purchase these again, as we didn't feel the construction was as good as other similar toys on the market. If you have a heavy chewer and don't allow them the occasional toy to shred, then I wouldn't recommend these at all. I think they'd be just fine for a non-shredding dog.

1/2018 Update: This toy is still in one piece, which is pretty amazing for my destructo-dog. One of the squeakers is dead however and occasional threads at the end need to be snipped off but it is NOT unraveling. He plays with this toy daily. I am impressed nothing else has lasted this long.

7/16/2018 Update: Well this toy is still in one piece after a year. Definitely recommend it to anyone. My sister got two for her pups and she has been advising that her dogs love them also.

6/21/19 Update: The destruco dog finally managed to destroy this toy, and I had to pitch it in the garbage. However I was so impressed with the quality that he now has a new one identical to the first one. Well worth the $6.00 and 2 years of constant use.

Tougher than plush, not for power chewers

Update: I’ve now purchased 5 of these over time. I would NOT call them tough toys or for power chewers, because they just are not. My 30lb dog can get into it easily. The first one it took her a while, but once she knew how to get into it, she now does it much faster than the original purchase. BUT! They are stronger than most plush toys, and she can’t get pieces off that she could choke on or even really eat, it just frays a lot. And it’s only $5 (I never pay more. They’ll always be for $5 at one point or another. Don’t pay more, they’re not worth it otherwise.). Andy dog LOVES these. So if it’s about a 3-star toy for $5, but I give it 4 stars because I’ve bought so many and will continue to do so.

Has lasted WAY longer than I assumed. Yay! I have a detail oriented power chewer and nothing lasts her more than a few minutes or hours for regular “tough” toys, or up to a day or so for Tuffy brand toys. She’s had this over a week and hasn’t put a hole in in yet. What works about it is there are only two seams, at the end and they’re very strong. She has pulled some red strings off the ends a bit but that’s fine. And, best part is the toy is soft still. It also doesn’t have a squeaker which is a bummer, but my dog still likes it.

Lasts longer than plush/other chew toys but not true firehose material

As some other reviews state and I listed as my review title, these chew toys are not all they are cracked up to be.

I will say that I am happy with these toys for my boxer as she doesn't meet the criteria of "heavy chewer et al." But she's a strong dog that can shred your more common chew toys. My picture is more for a warning as far as sun bleaching. The lightest colored one is 6 months old that's been out in the Phoenix AZ sun, the torn in two and partially bleached one is 4 months that's been mostly in the shade and used daily by my dog, and the darker of the three is 2 months old and been indoors.

As all toys are marked this one comes with a warning that our pets should never be left alone with a toy and should always be supervised. I have yet to look at a chew toy that is doesn't come with this same caveat.

Overall I'm very happy with this toy and have become more vigilant when allowing her to play with any toy. I usually have these delivered every two months through subscribe and save. But will keep them out of reach when she's some and discard them when she gets a new one.

German Shepherd LIVES FOR This Toy!

The moment I unboxed this toy and tossed it across the yard, my German Shepherd went absolutely nuts. This is such a fun and durable toy; it almost seems self-healing after her strong bites to it. She is pretty rough on her toys (especially any 'tug' or 'fetch' toys) and this one is going to be around for the long haul! She adores chasing, catching, fetching & chewing this toy.

We ordered the largest size but 'tug' isn't safe to play with this since the toy is slippery with no good 'grabbing' points (for people). If the dog grabs this with her mouth, her mouth is too close to either end for me to (safely) grab it. She tends to get excited and therefore at times overzealous and she had chomped my hand in the past during such moments, so if this were just a hand's length longer I would have given it five stars.

The wee man has great fun with this, playing tug of war ... The toy is sturdy, well put together, and is lasting very well, because i never let him take it away and chew it like he does with his other cheaper toys ...

I doubt theres a toy in existence that lasts very long, when the dog is left to chew on it to their hearts content ... So i reckon the more expensive toys should be special treat ones ..

It always stays with me .. and for that reason, stays intact... but also, because he never gets to take it away and chew it, and i put it away when were not playing with it, he always remains keenly interested in it ...
so this toy is one of his special toys, that he enjoys in small doses .. he'll never get bored with it like his pother toys, and should last a life time on that basis ...

Our dogs love their "hoses". It's their favourite toys to bring to us when we arrive back home. They are almost indestructible too!
