*Washable (according to the packaging, although I never washed it because it was easy to just brush dirt off of, and I didn't have it that long.)
*Easy fitting... more than one place to adjust the straps
*Padding over the buckles for comfort
*Bag attaches to harness separately by velcro, so if you don't want to unbuckle the whole dog, you can just pull the pack off.
*A lot of room in the pockets so your dog can carry more
*Front strap has a lot of room to adjust, so you can fit the pack a little more over the dog's shoulders than the middle of his back (packs that fit on the middle of the back can hurt your dog)
*Choice of colors. I chose blue and it was a pleasant color.
*Two straps under the girth instead of one increases proper fit and grip.
*Reflective tape in case you walk in the dark
*Lightweight without anything in it
*Not durable. This product claims it's made with nylon strength... but the sewing is single layered and normal...Read more ›
Yes, the straps are long as mentioned in many other reviews but this is to ensure it fits a variety of doggy body types (this is not a custom-made backpack, people). Here's the solution: Clasp the pack on your pup and fit the straps accordingly and EVENLY on each side (see my note below), take it off and cut the excess off with about an extra inch or two on the end, melt the edges with a lighter to prevent fraying and fold over and sew together. The last part is really important. Folding and sewing it keeps the strap on the snap so it doesn't slide of while your on a walk (like it did with me).
I also see why it can tilt on a dogs body and this is for 2 reasons: 1) you're putting too much stuff on one side so even it out 2) the straps on each side were pulled too much on one side and not enough on the other. Both are a user issue, not a product issue.
It will take some time and effort up front, but once its fitted you're good to go for the life of the backpack. If this is rocket science to you (or maybe you're lazy and that's ok too), then this is not the product for you.
As some other reviewers have noted, the pack is also great for storing human things. When I go jogging with my dog, she carries my keys, wallet, and cell phone. Another reviewer commented on the pack not being durable. That has not been my experience, though I can't way which instance is more typical. My dog frequently runs through thick brush, swims, and jumps over logs with no real damage to the pack aside from a few scratches on the reflective tape. The one durability issue I had was when the handle on the top of the pack started to come off, but a friend who owns a sewing machine reattached it with no problems. I can't fault the design too much though; keep in mind that this pack has gotten hundreds of hours of use, and I lift the pack by that handle every day, with the weights in the pack.
If weight isn't distributed very evenly between the two packs, the whole thing will flop to one side.
The elastic strings on top of the pack are too weak to really secure much of anything.
Has never rubbed or irritated my dog's skin.
Takes a lot of abuse with minimal wear.
Very easy to wash.
Holds a lot of stuff.
Is very visible for hiking in wooded areas.
Can hold ice packs to keep a dog cool in hot weather.
