It's been a few weeks and the headless body is holding up pretty well. 8 of the 16 "squeakies" remain in the torso section and Jasper still loves playing with it.
Update: This gator is amazing. My big boy can, and does, dissect anything. We usually get the toys w a warranty because he will always ruin them before time is up. He loves to rip seems and shred things. The picture doesn't look like much of an endorsement, but the big boy got the one on the left for Christmas, 8 months ago. Can't speak highly enough about it. The head was off first thing, but the rest held up like a champ! So many squeakers and even when they were long gone he LOVES this toy.
Is this the strongest made toy out there? No. Is it maybe a little over priced? Possibly. If you have a dog that’s hard on toys then you already know there is no such thing as indestructible. I happily forked over the $16 for the biggest one & her utter joy at finding so many squeakers was worth every penny. For now, it’s mostly intact & she sleeps with it instead of her beloved, mostly mutilated, squirrel. For a light chewer or a small dog that isn’t a search and destroy fur missile, this would probably last much longer.
For our Dutchie, this wouldn’t be a regular purchase but it is great for an occasional special treat. I’m not even annoyed by the little fibers it leaves as she chews on it. My inability to tolerate messes will not allow me to leave them on the floor so since buying this thing, my house has been ultra clean. Perspective, it’s all about perspective.
The dog is happy, the house is clean & the kid’s stuffed animals are once again, temporarily, off the hit list.
I thought the analogy they used in the description was so appropriate... it IS like bubble wrap for dogs! I had a hard time choosing between this guy, the cow or duck - they're ALL cute (and all retail for $16.99, so the $9.97 I paid was a nice deal), but this fella's wide grin won me over. There's an even BIGGER version of him that they refer to as "Ginormous" - 52" long with 32 squeakers as compared to this one (that's actually 29", though the description says 27", and has 16 squeakers), but I thought that would be a bit too long since the girls aren't large dogs. (There are also smaller versions called "Squeaker Matz Minis" - a gator and a duck - that retail for $6.99, but I wanted one large enough that they could all play with at once, if the mood struck!) Each squeaker is stitched into an individual pocket, so it really does remind you of bubble wrap.
My son and his partner live 700 miles away so I won't be there when the box is opened, but considering how loud it is at gift opening time with my human grandkids who live here in town, that might be a good thing on this one particular occasion - think all of that squeaking would drive me batty (especially since they keep on squeaking even when punctured!)
