I was suffering from severe trigger finger and a doctor recommended the Oval 8 splint and I had one and I lost it. I was devasted as I did not have easy access to the doctor anymore. When I found I could purchase this on-line I was ecstatic. I wear it every night in bed and the pain is gone and I rarely lock up any more. I highly recommend trying this before surgery.

My wife has been plagued with a trigger finger for several months. Her finger locks up painfully, sporadically, and capriciously. All she could do was wait for it to unlock, which sometimes took quite a while. Since she has been using her Oval 8 she hasn't had a lockup and has had no pain. The splint does not interfere with any of her activities.
I've got a recommendation for those at a loss as to the size to order. You can get a sizing chart from many web sites. I got one from Zales. I then went to my huge supply of hitherto useless junk which is too valuable to throw out. I found a small hose clamp which almost fit without adjustment. Its size is adjustable with a screwdriver and can be infinitely adjusted to the desired fit. Then compare it to the ring size chart and order the one that is nearest the size indicated by the hose clamp. Fit was perfect on the first try.
She had no problem for a few months of use. She hasn't used it for several months now and still no problem

I bought the Oval-8 splint for a mallet finger condition where the tendon that supports the distal joint of my middle finger was torn. I was attracted to the elegance and simplicity of the Oval-8 splint, the ease of use and small profile of the device. I thought it would be a lot better than the bulky, foam-lined aluminum drugstore variety splint --- and it was.

While the Oval-8 is advertised for many conditions, my doctor and physical therapist both stated that this splint would not be optimal for treating mallet finger. The problem is two-fold. First, for mallet finger the single-loop side of the splint has to press against the back of the distal joint to ensure stability. This concentrates a significant amount of stress on the tissue above the joint, reducing blood flow to some degree. Since the re-attachment and re-growth of the extensor tendon is the goal, and tendons don't receive as much blood as other anatomical components, the Oval-8 doesn't help, and may actually hinder that cause. Second, the finger needs to be splinted in slight hyper-extension. This requires heating and re-shaping the Oval-8 (which is easy to do), but that results in even more pressure on the tissue above the distal joint. These contentions became evident whenever I wore the Oval-8. Unfortunately, I have given up using it, and ended up getting a custom-made splint from the therapist.

In conclusion the Oval-8 is a good idea, it just needs refinement.

I injured my finger (mallet finger injury) and was looking at 6 weeks in a splint. Every other splint I could find had some major drawback-- not waterproof (have to cover it just to wash hands let alone shower), doesn't hold finger straight enough, waterproof tape messes up the skin, awkward to type while wearing....
This splint is genius. I can wear it 24/7, it's waterproof, supports my finger, I can type with it on, shower, basically anything... love it.
Two comments, though. One, the splint supports so well that if you try to be too active while wearing the splint you can put pressure on the skin/bone surrounding the injury site. I fished all day wearing the splint and the injury felt fine, but the surrounding area was sore. Second, I recommend buying two sizes to start- the correct size for where you will be using it (see the instruction on how to size) and the next size up to allow for any temporary swelling in the finger. I started with a size 5 splint and am glad I just received the 6!

This is the greatest little gadget,so comfortable to wear. It is not available in Canada and well worth getting. After wearing a multitude of different splints this is the best. To get your size use a ring sizer to find the size you need, but I would also recommend you also get another one in the next size up in case your finger swells later on in the healing process like mine did.

I bought this splint for a mallet finger injury I sustained playing basketball. If you are buying this on your own, then you may not realize or know that you need to buy the size specifically for the joint you will be splinting. And to account for changes in swelling, you may need to buy a size larger or smaller or all 3 depending on how your finger is doing during your recovery time. These are rigid products that do a nice job for a mallet finger injury. They also work for several other types of joint injuries, but I purchased mine for the mallet finger injury. It is nice because you can shower with it and not have to worry about it getting wet like you do with athletic tape or foam padding from other splints. The downside that I found is that because it is so rigid and does not flex at all like athletic tape or splints with some padding, is that it can really tighten up through the night or any other time your joint might swell. I had to switch it out at 2 am one night because the pain actually woke me up and it felt like my finger was going to fall off. I got it off and you could really see the indentations from the splint in my finger. Otherwise, it is a nice one to put on in the shower and also to wear off and on. It is by far the most discrete finger splint I have ever seen and that can also be an advantage to some. If you know you need it and don't want to pay the high costs of going through a sports injury doctor to get it, then Amazon is the place to find this.
