Mod TX

The Modern TX Collection is an exceptional step forward in acoustic-electric design. The comfortable satin maple neck feels more like an electric instrument than an acoustic steel string, making playing easier. Live performance is enhanced with the high output OP-Pro preamp and OCP1 pickup combination. The matte black finish might make it look like a shadow, but beneath the thin textured top is a resonant tonewood; a Deluxe AA Solid spruce top. Looks, Feel and Sound. Acoustic Balance

Listen. It starts with sound design. Thin Solid Spruce is the tonal center of the Mod TX Series. Resonance and support come from quarter-sawn, scalloped X-Bracing. Optimal response, power and articulation result from the marriage of a Lyrachord synthetic body and true tonewood top, creating the classic Ovation sound. Ovation is known for remarkable note clarity and balance, and the Mod TX is no exception.

Fast Neck

Play. Playability is essential. A satin-finished maple neck is a unique feature among acoustics. The Mod TX fretboard radius (the measurement of the arc of the fingerboard) is 11 13/16” (300mm). Compared to flatter radius acoustics, this is closer to a typical electric guitar radius, providing what most guitarists consider easier chording and a more comfortable feel. The slightly smaller scale length, unique fretboard radius and narrow nut ( 1 11/16” on 6 strings and both basses) combine to make the Mod TX Fast Neck a feel-good playing experience. You might play Blackbird, you might play Eruption, or you might play none of the above-but whatever you play, the Mod TX fast neck won’t hold you back.

I bought this 12 string because I've always loved the feel and action of Ovation guitars... I also bought it because I don't like the cheesy decorative leaf trim on the ports and they finally dumped it with this TX series... The overall build is good...but had to buff out some black paint finger prints on the neck... Five stars for being a beautiful playing, nice feeling, great sounding, awesome looking guitar...but minus a star for being sold without being inspected and making me do some work on it...

Things have changes over the past decade for Ovation's production a lot. Majority of items are produced offshore in Korea nowadays.

Back 25 years ago a Korean made Ovation (Celebrity or Applause, that is) meant a significant quality compromise such as poor acoustic and electric sound, durability issues (bridge would start to come off after several years, for example ).

But this one is really really good!

Despite the fact that it is 'crafted in Korea', when you hold it in your hands, look at it, play it plugged or unplugged, you feel that this is a worthy artifact made very very well.

It has an amazing preamp and pickup, producing a very solid and rich sound when plugged.

Mid depth body sounds unexpectedly good as well.

It came already with pretty good action (I like low action), I'll probably still try to make it lower but it already is pretty good, no buzzing whatsoever.

This I'd say this one definitely worth every penny spent.

Will see how this is going in a few years, hopefully will provide an update then.

Recently bought this 12 string because I liked the way the 6 string version sounded and played . It is set up good so I don't think I'll be doing anything to it till it needs a string change . Nice sound but it really comes alive when plugged in . I own several other guitars but these have quickly became my favorites . I also won't be worried about pick scratches if someone wants to try them out because the finish won't show them . Get the HSC when buying cause you'll want to keep this guitar around for a long time

Gets the tuning to Drop Bb

The reason for purchasing a guitar such as this D-Scale is for those of us who play in the baritone ranges. In other words, lower tunings than E standard. For instance Drop C (CGCFAD) or in my case, Drop Bb (BbFBbEbGC) and this is aka Drop A#. The issue with most acoustic guitars especially is tuning down the strings as they tend to buzz (loose strings) and they also easily fall out of tune (lack of tension on the strings). I've never owned an ovation before but decided to give this a go due to the scale length which the claim was that this allowed low tunings without the constant buzzing and re-tuning common with most guitars.

Well, I have had this for a about a month and it gets me what I need out of it. No issues with Drop Bb. If I start chugging hard on it, I can get some buzzing but I do have to work at it. The main thing is it stays in tune for me reasonably.

Negatives. The one thing I will say about rounded backs is that when seated, it likes to slide a little on the lap and this is even with the slightly different graded material used for that section. But everything else is good to better. The sound is solid. The neck feel and action is good. So, all in all, no real complaints.

Great guitar but helps if you've known about Ovation guitars [I played them for years] and you have to know that the materials are not all wood [obviously for the bowl] Guitar came in perfect condition. Stays in tune, sounds great with Elixir 11's. Ovation is known for state of the art pickups. Has built-in very sensitive tuner. Had to have it set up to my liking..removed 2 shims from the bridge and released some tension on the neck [it was a bit too straight] Plays well and fast, neck is too small for my big hands, and makes for dead strings on difficult chords however ....but most people will like the fast action and thin-ness. Adjusting the truss is not that easy as the nut is way inside the guitar and back panel has to be removed and very challenging to get the allen wrench in place, since you can't see while your arm is in the guitar.

Took a little getting used-to

Two extra frets doesn't sound like much, but it took me a little bit to get comfortable with it. I thoroughly enjoy it now that I have, because those two extra frets also brouht alot of songs I'd formerly been unable to sing within vocal range (I've been able to PLAY Hotel California for years, but Ive only been able to SING Hotel California since purchasing the D-Scale).

The overall craftsmanhip is good, and it sounds like an Ovation. There are differing opinions regarding whether or not that's a good thing, but I've always been a fan of the sound, so I couldn't be happier.

My only complaint is the electronics stopped working altogether. I rarely play through an amp, and was able to download a free tuning app that "hears" the correct strings (D-G-C-F-A-D is standard tuning), so I've delayed sending it off for repairs. However I own enough accoustic electric guitars of varying makes and price points to know this shouldn't have been an issue to begin with.

This bass is lovely to hold, comfortable and easy to play and has a great tone. The onboard tuner is a doddle if you need it and the higher quality of this bass compared to some of it's lesser models is noticeable. The great thing about the whole 'acoustic bass', is that you don't need to plug-in to play. Just pick it up and go. The only thing that would make it better is 5 strings, but then having had 5 string acoustic basses before, I'm not convinced they're worth it as its difficult to hear the low-B without plugging it in unless you're just in a practice situation. So yeah. Sold my 5-string and got this and and am totally happy with it. Great product.

Ich gebe es zu, ich habe die Ovation 2058TX-5 Elite hauptsächlich ausgewählt, weil sie wirklich ganz außergewöhnlich aussieht. Und weil es eine Ovation ist. Und weil es eine 12-Saitige ist.

Zwar besitze ich bereits eine Ovation Celebrety CS247 und bin seit rund zwanzig Jahren sehr zufrieden mit ihr, aber sie ist eben "nur" eine 6-Saitige. :-)

Aber zur Sache: als ich die Gitarre am 8. Mai 21 bestellte, war es u.a. wg. Corona bei mir in der Region leider nicht möglich, bei einem Händler direkt einen Eindruck zu gewinnen. Ovation hatte zu dieser Zeit bei allen von mir konsultierten Onlinehändlern mehrwöchige Lieferzeiten. Also griff ich zu, als via Amazon der Händler "tjarksen music-shop" die sofortige Lieferbarkeit der 2058TX avisierte und bestellte.

Ohne ins Detail gehen zu wollen, ging es dann aufgrund Schwierigkeiten beim Großhändler doch nicht ganz so schnell, aber mein Händler war sehr bemüht und sehr transparent und sorgte dafür, dass mir die Gitarre schließlich am 21. Mai 21 direkt von der GEWA zugestellt wurde.

Da war sie nun, schön und schwarz, mattschwarz - sehr mattschwarz fast überall.

Sie macht einen derart robusten Eindruck, dass man sie vermutlich ohne Nachteil zum Transport einfach auf die Rücksitze eines Autos "werfen" könnte. An die ungewohnt strukturierte Oberfläche auch an der Frontseite habe ich mich schnell gewöhnt. Sie ist merklich schwerer als die Celebrity, jedoch noch akzeptabel im Gewicht.

Sehr positiv fiel mir sofort der Deep Contour Body der 2058 auf, der sich überaus ergonomisch "am Mann" bespielen lässt. Da waren beim Round Bowl meiner Celebrity oft kleinere Maßnahmen erforderlich, um ein ständiges Wegrutschen des Korpus zu verhindern.

Erwartungsgemäß musste ich für eine wirklich gute Bespielbarkeit die Halskrümmung korrigieren und die Stegeinlage entfernen, weil ich auch auf dieser 12er gerne Barregriffe verwenden möchte und mir das mit suboptimalem Setup "etwas" anstrengend ist.

Die bei Lieferung aufgezogenen Adamas-Saiten haben eigentlich einen guten Ruf aber in meinen Ohren waren sie etwas zu schrill, klirrig - schwer zu beschreiben. Jedenfalls habe ich sie gegen Elixir getauscht und danach perlte der Klang für mich klar, rund und sauber. Jede Anschlagvariation wirkt sich sofort so in der Dynamik aus, wie ich es erwarte. Unplugged ist sie etwas leiser als erwartet, jedoch sind hohe Saiten wie Bass-Saiten gleichermaßen präsent und obertonreich - eben Ovation - und am Amp ist sie natürlich ohnehin voll da.

Insofern bin ich rundum zufrieden!

Halt! Überhaupt nicht zufrieden war ich von Anfang an mit den Stimmmechaniken!

Die Tuner verhielten sich extrem schwergängig, wenn die gestimmten Saiten in die Nähe der korrekten Stimmung kamen. Das deutet eigentlich immer auf schlecht gearbeitete Sattelkerben hin, aber weil auch das Fetten mit "Big Bends Nut Sauce" keinerlei Wirkung zeigte und ich ungern irreparabel an den Kerben feilen wollte, ging die Gitarre durch Vermittlung des Händlers am 22. Juni 21 schweren Herzens an die Spezialisten der GEWA, dem Großhändler und Eigentümer von Ovation.

Sie kam dann nach einer für mich schmerzlich langen Zeit am 16. Juli 21(!) endlich zurück mit dem Reparaturvermerk "Mechaniken auseinandergebaut und neu geölt". Nun ist sie endlich so wie erwartet.

Vermutlich wären meine kritischen Anmerkungen ohne die Corona-Einschränkungen, also wenn ich die Gitarre vor Ort vom Händler hätte holen können, gegenstandslos.

Zusammenfassung:
