Omg! Oh Happy day for a disabled person! I haven't had one of these since I returned to USA in 2005! Ppl here waste time/electricity heating teacup of water either in microwave or big electric teapot. Well now I'm more disabled,in bed more, but microwave downstairs! What to do? Of course come to Amazon! I used one of these for 12 yrs in Latvia, didn't even know word for it in English! Found one, it just came, I immediately made myself fast, awesomely hot cup of tea IN MY BEDROOM on bedside table!!! Yay! Great, great,great product, would recommend to everyone!!! Don't waste power! U don't need to turn on microwave for a tea, instant hot cocoa, instant coffee, even ramen and oatmeal! Just boil water in cup for ramen, pour over dry noodles! Same with instant oatmeal!!! Omg, my life just got SO much easier and happier!!!! Buy this awesome little immersion heater! To seller- do u have large one for heating more water? I hope so!!!! Too low income folks out there still trying to live as green and responsible as possible...this is for you! Why turn on a 1500 watt microwave, or powerful teapot when u can just make individual cups of tea with this awesome heater? I'm so happy! It's so awesome!!!

I always find myself reading the 1 star and the 2 star reviews on items from Amazon before I purchase them because I feel that gives me a good feel for the problems on any potential purchase. This is a five star item. I was almost inclined to rate it one star so that it would be read by people like me! Anyway, works perfectly. I use it thru a 500 watt inverter hard wired to my battery in my truck. Heats 6 oz of cold water to boiling in about 4 minutes. I was very particular in reading the instructions prior to use...a must! I have used it about 20 times so far and it's exactly what I needed and works exactly as advertised. I usually just make instant coffee or hot cider so now I don't have to pull out my coffee kettle and single burner stove just to make a quick 6 oz hot drink anymore...plus I can use it WHILE I'm driving instead of pulling over to use my stove. REMEMBER: insert FIRST into cold liquid, THEN plug in. Once heated, UNPLUG and allow it to REMAIN in your cup for 15-30 seconds, THEN remove. This will keep the item from burning the unreplaceable fuse which would render it useless..

I often need just one cup of hot tea without going through hassle of boiling the entire pot and also pouring it into the cup. This little gizmo lets me just pour water into my cup and then I just stick this thing in and voila.

I use glass cups/mugs see through so it is fun and joy to see it boiling. Every tee feels like science experiment.

I am using this heater for about eight months or so, every single day one or two times a day and never any problems.

If this is your first time buying this thing (I grew up with them but I know some people did not):
here is few safety and practical tips with those devices:

= this device is super quick, don't go away when you put it into the water, stay around as it will be ready so fast, if you lave it boiling for half hour you will come back to empty glass and possibly broken and it can be a fire hazard.
= when you stick it in the water cup, put the cup on some heat resistant surface beacause boiling water is very hot so your cup can melt some plastic sheet or stuff like that if you put it on it.
= once you are done, first unplug it and then take it out.
= when you take it out have some plate or empty glass jar to put it in to rest and cool. Don't leave it on flammable surfaces like wood because even if off, very hot and can be unsafe.
= never boil water near your body or children as if the glass brakes which could happen as one in a million a glass can have some micro crack and can let go.. so if it breaks, hot water would not go on the skin causing damage.
= if you are new to this, use metal cups first to get familiar with this as glass requires respectful careful handling.
= I tend to sometimes boil things when this thing is not entirely submerged, to the point where metal leveler is
and it works for me, however it get oxydized as in changes color to rainbow dark steel but it is fine by me.
= don't wash it ever as you should only use it with plain water that does not make it dirty.
= if you use it daily, after some months there will be accumulation of stone on the metal part just like on your teeth but you can clean it by soaking it in vinegar for a little. All will fall off, then rinse.

Overall very useful gizmo that has tone of millage in my house.

Last note of caution if you for some reason are forgetful, get yourself plug in timer for your outlet and THEN insert it into it, have timer set to five minutes so worse case scenario it will turn off automatically.

If you ever need to leave it for a second have a handy portable timer, set it and only then leave. So something will remind you that this gizmo is plugged in.

This is a moderately useful piece of equipment, but you are forced to pay careful attention to the warnings about how NOT to use it without blowing out the internal thermal fuse, which will make it into useless junk. It needs to have a user-friendly on-off switch (and it does NOT) to make it a little safer. I use mine on a worktable close to a bunch of First-Graders (because that's the only available space) and today I had to buy a switched plugging strip to cut the power in an instant... but you still need to be careful because the coil is still dangerously hot enough to burn skin. Yes, it is portable, it is inexpensive, but it is very unforgiving.

This has been the best thing for me when I travel. As a flight attendant I am always on the go and I love having this for my convienence. I don't really like using the hot water from the plane and sometimes I don't like using the coffee makers in hotel rooms unless I clean them out first. So this is so easy just to plug in and the water gets hot in like 2 mins.

Before you plug it in make sure that it is already in the water and unplug it before you take it out the water b/c you may cause it to short.
I do recommend this product especially if you drink a lot of tea and/or hot water. It would be great,for those who workman an office and hate to keep getting up to gwt more hot water. Just plug this in at your desk and your are good to go.
