Brother's best friend, first love

I always love a second chance romance, especially when it happens to be a romance between a girl and her brother's best friend. What I loved even more about this book is that Corey admitted to himself that Hayley was was actually his best friend before her other brother actually was. These two could talk about anything and everything for hours. Hayley also respected Corey no matter what girl he was talking to or who he was with at the time, even though she admitted to herself that she "damned near loved him". I also loved that Corey wasn't the perfect jock. Nether of them had the best childhood, yet they were there for each other as much as they could. Once their lives collided again there was no stopping the love they had for each other, no matter how Hayley's brother felt. I loved the addition of the text messages and emails. They definitely added to the story. I've been waiting a while for this story to come out and I have to say it didn't disappoint.

If you’ve been following my blog on Facebook, here, or my Goodreads account you know I read EVERY book Whitney writes. Since Andrew, she made me a huge fan of hers and she’s always been one of my go-to authors if I’m in a reading funk. Thus, it pains me to say, Over You, Over Us fell flat for me on so many levels. I couldn’t connect with most of the characters, it felt rushed, the steamy scenes didn’t do it for me and *sighs*, I even skipped lines *hangs head in shame*.

“Hey, Corey?” Please don’t ask me anything inappropriate …
“Yes, Hayley?” “I know it’s been a long time since we spoke, but I still remember when you used to call.”
I looked at her, seeing her blue eyes focused on me. “I still remember when you used to answer.”

Let’s start at the beginning, shall we? Hayley and her brother Jonathan had a horrible childhood, bouncing from one to another bad foster family. As if that wasn’t enough, the system split them up so both had to live in different homes. Jonathan ended up in Corey’s family and both became quick friends. Not long, Hayley joined the club – thanks to living close by – and the three of them hung out, with Hayley even sneaking through their window at night and so on . . . until Jonathan graduated and took off, leaving Hayley behind with a promise to get her soon so she can have the life she/they truly deserve.
Corey and Hayley bonded despite the age difference and she developed over the following months a crush on him . . . or she thought it was.
Fast forward, present time. Hayley has to move to her brother to San Francisco after a failed business, that’s where Corey and her paths cross again. Old feelings rekindle and yeah, the rest is history as you say 😉

I wish I could give this book a better rating, but everything was lacking a bit: the humor, plot (depths), sex. I needed more, more of everything in order to swoon over this book and its characters.
If you’re looking for a quick read with insta-romance (even though it started in the past, but you know what I mean, no real build-up etc.), then def check this book out! This time, it didn’t work for me but that’s as always ONLY MY opinion.

Hayley's laziness with her job was so frustrating. Like, I get it, you have a boyfriend. But come on you're an adult so do your job that you totally didn't earn by the way. But seriously those sex scenes were kind of ridiculous. So unrealistic for a virgin. She gives blow jobs like a pro and swallows like it's no big deal even though it's her first time. And of course she orgasms just from penetration because that's so normal in books. And the whole way Jonathon overreacts that they're dating and turns it into a huge deal was just really lame. This just wasn't that good of a book. I loved the idea of it but it just was lame

If you're looking for a fast-paced friends to lovers romance, then Over Us, Over You by Whitney G. is the perfect book for you!

This story is told in three different parts and in alternate points of view. We meet Hayley as she's being evicted from her coffee shop and from her apartment and has no other options but to call her brother and ask for help. Back in San Fransisco she's trying to get back on her feet and stay away from Corey, her brothers best friend and her old friend as well. One drunken night changes everything for these two, and now Johnathan, Haley's brother is now asking Corey for a favor and for Hayley to live with him for a few weeks.

Corey and Hayley have a history, and as the book goes on we get to see the past and how close the two of them used to be, and why Hayley stopped talking to him all those years ago. We also get to see these two go from heavy sexual tension and Corey putting so many rules in place to stay away from her, to an amazing, yet rocky relationship. I truly adored watching these two work through things and how Hayley seemed to break Corey down little by little in the beginning of the book. He tried as hard as he could to stay away, but no matter how hard he tried, every little thing she did drove him closer to insanity and to wanting her more and more.

The biggest thing stopping these two from being truly happy is Hayley's brother, and Corey's best friend Johnathan. I hated that he was such a factor in their relationship, but I also loved how protective he was over Hayley. Since him and Hayley had such a horrible childhood he felt responsible for her and truly took over for caring for her and making sure she was safe, and was at times overbearing when it came to her, but he was always looking out for her, and at times he may have been a little too over protective and got in the way of true happiness.

I really did enjoy this book, the banter between the characters, the sneakiness, and just the overall plot of the book. I just wish that this book would have been a bit longer and some parts could have been expanded on a bit more, I felt some parts were a bit rushed, and that's why I can't give it the full five stars. I did finish this book in one sitting, it was just that good and it did grab me from beginning to end. If you are looking for a rom-com that will have you hooked from beginning to end, you need to pick up Over Us, Over You by Whitney G. today!

This was a cute, fun read though Hayley (and Kelly) did seem more like irresponsible teenagers than the adult women they were supposed to be. All in all, a fun, romantic story.
