Leni is the town librarian and resident book lover. You won’t catch her many places without a book or her kindle close by. Her best friend is quite the opposite. Griffin Thorne is a hunky fireman who tries his best to get Leni out of the house and to live a little. They’ve known each other since they were little, and what was once annoyance turned into an amazing friendship that they both value. When an unexpected tragedy happens and Leni starts staying with Griffin, the feelings they’ve tried to keep hidden come rushing to the surface. The question is, are either of them ready to take that leap, or will they stay in the friendzone forever?
I loved every part of this story. First and foremost, I think that Leni is one of the most relatable characters ever. She’s shy around new people, but opens up once you get to know her. She’s a lover of all things books and is fiercely loyal. As for Griffin, please the hot and outgoing firefighter…need I say more? He’s amazing and every time he nudged Leni out of her comfort zone I loved him even more.
Now lets talk secondary characters. Nan is Leni’s grandma and is freaking hilarious. She has zero filter and lives her life to the fullest, and I love her sass. Parker is also amazing, and I’m really hoping we get a book about her (no pressure Miranda ;) ). I have a feeling I know who would be a perfect match for her!
Everything about this story from the characters, to the plot was amazing and extremely down to earth which I think contributed to why I love it so much. I haven’t read any other books by Miranda Elaine, but now that I’ve read this one, I’m definitely going to go back and read her other books!
A delicious, slow-burning romance, Overdue pairs firefighter, Griffin, and his childhood best friend, town librarian, Leni. It was a light-hearted, easy-reading best-friends-to-lovers romance, and it wasn’t overly angsty, but the heroine had some major emotional baggage that held her back. Miranda has a great sense of humor that she used liberally throughout this story giving it a playful feel. Griffin was a swoon-worthy hero, but he was also a really great guy. He was Leni’s rock, her person, and the two of them had spent years pushing aside their true feelings in favor of protecting their special, one-of-a-kind friendship. When those feelings finally bubble to the surface and become impossible to ignore, it’s Griffin who gently and patiently guides them through it. Miranda always peppers interesting side characters in her stories, and she definitely added some wonderful ones here in Leni's grandmother and her neighbor, Parker, whose book I'm already looking forward to.
Once again, Miranda Elaine has left me fully entertained and thoroughly impressed with her writing. Overdue was a sexy and heartwarming story brimming with humor and endearing characters. This heartstring-tugging, heat-filled romance full of charming characters kept me smiling from cover-to-cover. I positively devoured this book, and I was not only left wanting more but also very excited about what will come next from Miranda. Five smooches from me for Overdue by Miranda Elaine!
It took a few sentences for me to feel a connection to Leni. When she tried to get out of a social gathering then planned on finding a quiet place to read at said social gathering I thought to myself, “that’s me”. The more I got to know her and the reasons of why she felt safer getting lost in the pages of a book were so closely related to my reasons that I was in awe of reading a heroine that I connected to on such a profound level.
Leni and Griffin had an undeniable chemistry but below the surface these best friends had much stronger feelings for each other that you could literally feel through the pages while they slowly became more than best friends. I loved the banter they shared and the way Griffin had this innate ability to understand her in an intimately profound way some of which she had yet to come to terms with herself.
I can’t think of a more perfect book to spend curled up reading on this dreary Sunday morning. Overdue was a beautifully constructed, perfectly balanced amount of sassy heroine, hot dirty talking fireman, sweet, steam, with an interlace of feels that make your chest tighten and may cause a few tears to leak out. Oh, and nan deserves her very own sentence she was full of fire with absolutely no filter I aspire to be half that fun at her age.
