This game is great! The only thing that gave me a bit of a problem was the defaults the game starts out with. You use both the mouse and the KB to play or a gamepad. Since the mouse is used to control you minions, the KB controls your character and certain other things you can do. It is set up for a right-handed mouse user. I'm a bit strange in this respect as I'm right-handed but use my left hand to control the mouse and my right hand to control my character's movement and actions. So having the A,S,W,D keys for moving my character around just doesn't work for me. I had to reset the arrow keys for movement and move the other action and target lock keys over close to the arrow keys. I left the space bar as is for action. This works out really well. I found that on my system, I had to adjust the default screen settings and sound settings as well. Since I don't have one of the more current graphic cards I had to change the resolution to get the game to run a bit better. It seems that 1024x768 is the default and that's what I use on my desktop but on this game it runs a bit slow so I noted that the game has a number of different settings that go all the way down to 640x480 which I decided on as it gave me the best blend of speed and it alllowed me to up the details a bit. I am very happy about the way the game was built with a way to adjust these settings and allow for a better game play experince. This was well thought out. Game play itself is a lot of fun and I found myself laughing out loud a number of times. A great game and just a lot of fun!!!

I saw a review for this "old" game on youtube just browsing. I decided to purchase from amazon both this and Overlord II. I should have purchased through Steam and received the expansion pack for free... My mistake.
Awesome game! I've been playing it nonstop for a few days now (after work for a bit really). I love the game! The gameplay can be seen on youtube, go there if you have any concerns. I completely enjoy sending my minions to their deaths to promote my cause! Controlling large groups is sometimes cumbersome but once you get the hang of roll-select with your mouse it is ok. I'm almost through the game I think... one of the last scenes and I control 43 minions. I have not used the extra spells yet... I enjoy the more hands on approach of beating the carp out of my enemies with my own Mace!
I was in awe as I walked through the world, sending my minions to crush my enemies and friends at will. Fields were full of sun-kissed flowers swaying independently in the wind, and wonderful emerald waterfalls flowing peacefully into streams... as my minions chased down jumping, happy sheep grazing in the fields and ripped the life right out of 'em.
I walked through dungeons and underworlds filled with glowing hot lava, and bulging flagstone walls with sconces flickering shadows around every corner... while my minions killed little hobbit creatures in their sleep.
The enemies were fun to fight, often gigantic, complex and well animated.
Sometimes the game play got a bit monotonous, but you did have to learn how to sweep your minions in and out of a battle against idiosyncratic foes that would find resourceful ways to kill your men off.
Oh, and when you get the chance to take Velvet as your mistress over her snotty sister to whom you've already pledge your allegiance, go for it. You won't be sorry!
The best part of this game is the quirky humor. I found some of the puzzles and tricks to navigation a bit of a pain and didn't go all the way to the end, but it was WELL WELL worth playing just for the quirky humor and funny graphics and game play. Be prepared for some wild surprises! It is also so funny and crazy that it can be fun just to replay parts to have your little minions smash and destroy stuff. It's a little rough around the edges in some aspects, but all of it is completely forgotten on account of the crazy insanity of the game play.

This game has everything a game should. Humor, subversive tendencies, and drunk imps pissing on a floor. I would recommend this to anyone with a sense of humor.
Overall this is really fun game and I had a blast playing it. The controls are a little rough to get get used too but one you have it down it is a lot of fun. I would have gave it a five star rating but for me after I finished the game I didn't want to play it anymore. Possibly becuase I was about mid way through fall-out 3.
