The secondary characters and their importance in the overall storyline, along with the MINOR details that Sam is a violin protege and Liam runs a private security firm make the beginning of this series "drool worthy" . If you like your romances dark and complicated stand by because I guarantee you'll be rereading this story just to "hang on" till Concerto the 2nd book comes out. Each time I read a new story/series by Skye I think her imagination and writing style can't get any better, but if the beginning of this series is anything to go by then this may be her best dark romance to date.
Liam wasn’t family by blood. He was her guardian, the man that raised her since she was twelve after her father died.
Samantha is a child prodigy. Her gift for the violin and her love of music is so much a part of who she is. Liam nurtured and encouraged that gift.
She’s almost eighteen now and the feelings she has for Liam are anything but paternal. Her love for Liam is something she can no longer ignore, but Liam is fighting his own ghosts. Will he ever see her as more than the little girl who became his ward? Can he resist grown up Samantha?
Forbidden romance is my ultimate weakness. This story was so much more than I had expected. The tension...the build up...the almost moments...were incredibly HOT! As I was nearing the end, I wanted to slow it down...I wanted to keep reading. I wanted it ALL! I NEED to know EVERYTHING! I look forward to more as Samantha and Liam's story continues.
I miss her darker side!
Ok, I can’t really rant like I want to because of spoilers. But I can tell you if you like taboo books, you need this! This is the first book but it’s more like a teaser since it went by so fast lol. I gotta read slower.
I love the musical references and want to know more about Samantha.
Brief hot sexy times that only occur near the end of the story and when the heroine is of legal age. Too much pushing away by the hero and an unnecessary cliffhanger that resulted in a 4 star as opposed to 5 star rating.

Samantha hasn't had the easiest upbringing, yet as a child prodigy, always strived to please, to be enough, for anyone that might take care of her. Six years with the indomitable Liam North have taught her many things, including that loving your guardian isn't necessarily going to pan out how you hope it would.
Liam is a man of stone countenance and build, created as such because of a childhood no child ought to bear, and the believe that he has the very devil inside him, making him incapable of being anything else, anything more than that. Yet, his ward, well, she just isn't what he expected, and he doesn't know how to plan for that.
I adored this story. Their own brand of tension, of friendship, of support, of love, it oozed from every single page even when I want to shake Samantha's shoulders or give Liam a slap upside the head. Throw in a wonderful cast of secondary characters, each of whom I hope get their own story because well, I demand to read them, and it made for a book I couldn't put down. In fact, I'm going to pick up book two now! So, if you love a bit of taboo, a lot of angst, and an additional sprinkling of swoon, well, look no further!
It's a good story but slow building. I can already see that the brothers mentioned will get their own stories soon
Good strong female
Lead male has issues of course!
Why oh why did it take me so long to read this book? I should know better, I should have done it a long time ago when the ads and Skye’s newsletter would tell me to get Overture and start this journey, but I didn’t. I brushed past it, choosing to pick up so many other Sky Warren books and reading them.
So many broken people and so many innocents, but isn’t that the way of the world. It is definitely part of Skye Warren’s world. Someone is always atoning for sins that weren’t really theirs to atone for, with someone who could save that person, that what you will get when you read one of her books.
Liam North is convinced he is not cut out to have the life any other person would expect. He and his brothers abused by a crazy father, Liam joins the military and is eventually able to open his own security company and bring his brothers into the company with him.
Has he done bad things, who is this world doesn’t do bad things even if they are done with good intentions. So when Liam sees how Samantha Brooks a 12 year old violin prodigy, being left on her own to fair for herself he does what he needs to do, even in advance of orders. He then applies to become her guardian and for the next six years, makes sure she has everything any child could need to grow up in a safe environment the whole time realizing that as time goes by she means more to him than just being his ward, his feelings are not those of a parent. Nor should they be those of a parent, he was never going to be her parent just someone who would keep her safe. Then he would let her go, but now on almost the eve of her leaving for a worldwide tour he doesn’t really want to let her go, he also doesn’t want her to know what kind of danger she is in. Know this however, Skye Warren would never write a hero like Liam North who would let her go. He will make sure no matter what that she is always protected, even if it is not him doing the protection.
Skye Warren’s beautiful stories are heart breakers, tearjerkers, exciting, dark, and page turning and they contain so much love, the kind of love everyone wants to have in their lives. The kind of love that surpasses the love everyone wishes for and by reading her stories you the reader are allowed to partake of that love.
Now, nearing her eighteenth birthday, things could not be described as anything like a father-daughter relationship. While Liam is cool and remote on the outside, he secretly burns with dark desires and most prominent, is his feelings for Samantha.
Samantha's days are filled with violin practice and preparation for a music career. She has had such a sheltered upbringing within Liam's compound, she has very little experience or understanding about relationships. But she has been fantasizing about Liam.
One night, an incident brings their explosive desires into the open, and this is the beginning of a whole new experience for them both.
But Liam cannot let Samantha stay.
Part one of three. Not clearly labelled as a trilogy when I obtained this book. I enjoyed the plays of emotion between the characters and the storyline is fairly intriguing, but I'm not certain whether I will purchase another two books to complete the story.
Samantha, a talented violinist has spent her early years with a father who treated her as an afterthought. With his passing, child prodigy Samantha is taken in by Liam North.
At the beginning it is not really clear as to why. The years that follow, sees them falling into a seamless routine with Liam as her guardian and Samantha as the studious and well behaved ward.
This all begins to unravel with Samantha turning 18. This is a delicious coming of age story where Samantha on the cusp of womanhood can no longer deny her feelings for Liam and nor can he….
This book ends on a cliffhanger (which I loathe) but cannot wait for the next installment “Concerto”
As for taboo romance:- 18 years vs 34 years? Today maybe, but most of the romance books I read in the seventies and eighties (yes I'm that old) starred H/h around those ages... (18 to 23 vs 30 - 38) Women were rarely over 23 and their men were never under 30. This book was well written, steamy and emotional. One of my favourite authors. Some darker themes though. ❤
