"The entire book is well-written, enlightening and inspirational, but if I had to pick a section that resonates most with me, it would have to be Part III: Outwit Your Brain's Productivity Saboteurs, which outlines the seven specific personality traits that sabotage your most well-intentioned efforts. The way Story describes my individual productivity thieves such as perfectionism, workaholism, and setting destructive goals - it's almost like she knows me! Seriously though, these chapters will help you understand your biggest stumbling blocks and set you on a more productive course. The final section wraps things up nicely, presenting four skills writers must learn for a long, productive career in writing.
Overall, I highly recommend Overwhelmed Writer Rescue by Colleen M. Story. I discovered more than a handful of items about myself and my practices that hinder my ability to be my best creative self. I recommend taking your time going through each chapter and section of the book. If there is a survey - take it, if there is an activity or writing prompt/assignment - do it! They are well worth the time! Though geared toward writers, I believe this book would be a successful tool for anyone wanting to learn how to overcome procrastination and your natural productivity obstacles to increase motivation and free up more time for doing the things you love."

"I was positively surprisedat the wealth of information contained in OverwhelmedWriter Rescue by Colleen M. Story. I expected more of the same, as I'veread many books on writing and being a writer. This one stands out from theothers (at least for me) because the advice given is not only useful for yourlife as a writer, but also for your life in general. I also learned a few newthings, e.g. I wasn't aware of the existence of time personalities and how thisaffects writing (and life in general). The book was a very refreshing read asthe author clearly knows how annoying it is when you tell a writer - or anybody- that positive thinking and affirmations will get you where you want to be, ifonly you are positive enough. To me, it always seems like a personal attack ifa book tells me I don't get what I want because I am not positive andsmiley-happy-chappy enough. Most introverts will probably be able to relate.
This book offers a widevariety of solutions....I was delighted to find some ideas that seem like theywere written down just for writers like me... Even if you don't struggle withyour writing, this book can be a great resource to keep you on track and remindyou of what's really important."

Story offers much more than time management tips in Overwhelmed Writer Rescue. The author explores a lot of life areas in this book in a very neat and orderly fashion. Readers will learn about distractions (and have the opportunity to examine their own personal productivity distractions), readers will learn about decision making and choices, self care, finding and maintaining motivation--and developing the perseverance needed to keep pushing through toward those life and project goals. Each reader has the option to fully utilize this book's potential for his or her individual needs and goals through the many worksheets and exercises presented throughout the book. Plan to take notes, write in the available prompts and worksheets and make this book work for you.
Would I recommend Overwhelmed Writer Rescue by Colleen M. Story? I will admit that I do really (really, really) struggle to find time these days to write anything beyond my daily required assignments and tasks. (I use many of the excuses noted in Colleen's book to justify not writing!) I also have a number of creative projects beyond writing that I would love to complete (refinishing a dining room set, painting and woodworking projects, etc.)--but, am too overwhelmed with the day to day operations of life that I simply never get around to them! I love the advice offered in this book--and I especially love that it is written in a manner that allows me to "tweak" the messages toward my own needs and goals. While this is a wonderful resource for writers and creators--it's also a wonderful resource for any of us struggling with overwhelming, activity filled, chaotic days! I love the author's writing style and her practical, realistic tips. I think anyone could benefit from the self help nature of this book. If you are a note-taker--consider buying the paperback version so that you are readily able to jot notes and thoughts or answer the various questions as you work through the book.
I received a copy of this book from the author or publisher for use in a blog review. All opinions are my own.
Yet, writing can be a struggle some days. I know what I what I want to say, but it doesn't come out just right. I have great ideas come to mind, but the time just isn't there to stop and write. I feel like all the tasks associated with blogging stifle my writing creativity.
Being hopeful, I accepted a courtesy advanced reader's copy of “Overwhelmed Writer Rescue.” It called out to me with its subtitle: “Boost Productivity, Improve Time Management, and Replenish the Creator Within.”

This Mom's Review
This book now has a permanent spot on my desk. I read through it for purposes of reviewing it. I will now go back through and apply it to my writing lifestyle, as well as other areas in my life. Then, I will give it a permanent home on my desk for easy reference. It has won all 5 stars (if I were to rate my books).
The book is made up four parts, which easily could've been made into four smaller books. I appreciate the author covering so much in one book. I would easily pay for another copy if I were to misplace this one.
The Four Parts of the “Overwhelmed Writer Rescue”
Part One brings reality to the table, addressing the ‘perfect writing life', time, being human, and the need to let it go. You will be expected to make changes and create new habits. It's a gentle push, though. The author didn't make me cry or shut the book angrily. I am motivated by all she has asked of me. I am finally okay with not multitasking. I found out that I don't have feel like a victim anymore. Those feelings of powerlessness have no place in my writing life anymore.
Part Two offers valuable tips on prioritizing, focusing, saying no, taking breaks and recognizing time thieves. Knowing your personality and tricking yourself into getting started are also covered in this section.
Part Three brings awareness as you look at seven saboteurs: writer's guilt, disease, self-doubt, perfectionism, workaholism, destructive goal-setting, and belief.
Part Four Four addresses the area of failure. You learn to use your motivation style, to be flexible and to be persistent. Writer solutions, you know — writer's block, are offered in this section. It ends with a prompt to answer your calling.
