"Michael Di Fuccia has produced the most major study of Owen Barfield so far. He shows just why the future of theology may belong to Barfield's seemingly wilder, but more metaphysically penetrating, style of orthodoxy. Barfield realized early, that in order to believe now, one must disbelieve much of what passes today as accepted secular wisdom. The alternative is some version of theistic positivism, credible only to the emotionally immature. I thoroughly recommend this new book to all sensitive and reflective readers."
--John Milbank, author of Theology and Social Theory
Michael Vincent Di Fuccia (PhD University of Nottingham) is a lecturer in philosophical and systematic theology.

Barfield will one day be recognized as one of the foremost philosophers not only of the 20th century, but of all time. It is actually a scandal that he is so little known by so many.
For lovers of C. S. Lewis and Professor Tolkien, the contributions to their fictional works of Barfield will be of great interest. C. S. Lewis dedicated The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to Barfield's daughter. Professor Tolkien openly admitted that the concept of Middle Earth would not have come to him without the work of Barfield. Barfield, Lewis, Tolkien, and others made up the intellectual group at Oxford known as the "Inklings." When all is said and done, and despite the universal popularity of Professors Lewis and Tolkien, it was Owen Barfield's who thought reverberated throughout their works, to remain relevant for all time.
The author does justice to Barfield's critiques of Heidegger and previous philosophical traditions.
I highly recommend "Saving the Appearances," and all other works by and on Owen Barfield.
