Here are some of my favorite quotes:
"I had to own my life--to take responsibility for my choices, attitude, will, and actions, knowing they would all have consequences for eternity. Once I understood that my integrity was built when no one but Christ was looking, I was motivated to remain in faithful in moments alone with Him and my Bible."
"There I learned that life was not about my ease, but about God's desire to help me become mature. He wanted to take for my hands the very things I was holding on to for security so that I could find lasting happiness in the simple things..."
"This is an essential component of a vibrant spiritual life--to decide to like who we are because God loves who we are."
"I realize how subtly but thoroughly cynicism, technological advancement, and the dogma of evolutionary scientists influence our adult minds. When we try to reduce God to something we can comprehend or a philosophy we can understand, our souls become numb to His preeminence and transcendence. When we're caught up in the constant activity and responsibilities of adult life, we must learn to consciously open our "child's" eyes to see the miraculous that surrounds us."
"I meet very few women who seem exemplary of character and soul, whose lives challenge me to be more excellent. I'm not talking about perfect performance in life but about devotion and contagious passion- not behavior, but heart. Women who know their God should be mirror reflections of His beauty, vibrant character, generous love, and wisdom. But to reflect such attributes, we must invest time and thought in what our minds and hearts are becoming."
I re-read this particular paragraph several times, hoping it was somehow a typo, but from the context of the sentence and what follows, I don't think it is. This book is a drudgery to read and I would not recommend it to anyone. If you are looking for an inspiring and insightful book that really does address "living with deep intention, bold faith, and generous love," I would instead recommend reading "Treasuring God in Our Traditions" by Noel Piper. Piper's book also draws on her personal experiences, but they are presented with a more humble tone as memories and inspirations for incorporating God honoring traditions into your own life.
