When I got out my digital thickness gauge, this product measured 0.12 mm in thickness verses the 5" x 8" generic index card from Office Max that measures 0.19 mm in thickness. This is more than 50% thinner than the Office Max generic brand.
I have used exactly the same cards in the past (january 2013) and they were thick and nice to use. This current order (November 2013) was really bad quality. The 'cards' are nothing but ordinary paper. They are very thin.
Please do not order this if you are looking for proper hard flash cards - this is the thickness of ordinary paper.
1. When Amazon sells a product called index cards, they need to be of card stock.
2. When they're made of regular paper, you need to state that they're made of 80-90 lb. paper.
2. The weight of the paper/card stock needs to be clearly stated in the product description of EVERY index card that Amazon carries.
I was very angry when I received these index cards and found them to be merely heavy paper. It put my project behind and was a complete waste of $11.
2/7/14 Update: I was unable to find good quality 5x8 index cards anywhere, so I ended up using Neenah Exact Index Cardstock that is available at http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006P1Z59E/ref=pe_385040_30332190_pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_ST1_dp_1. It's not as heavy a paper as your typical 3x5 index cards, but it's heavy enough to make durable index cards with and it's very cost effective.
Overall, a good purchase. If I need card stock, I'll buy something else, but I'll definitely reorder these if I just need to make flash cards that'll only see light use.
Slightly thicker than regular 20 lbs copy paper
still closer to paper than card stock or anything I've ever known as an index/note card
I kind of like it, considering I've used both index cards and paper and it feels wrong, either too thick or not thick enough
because of that, and actually being a 5 pack of 100 card packs of blank 5x8 whatever_these_are's I'm giving it two instead of just a single star
I actually have a set of calipers... Why don't I test these?
my copy/printer paper vs my whatever_these_are vs my Bazic spiral ruled index cards (torn off of spiral [so no unfair advantages with curves or complex calculations])
A stack of five sheets:
0.51mm 0.90mm 1.11mm
0.0205" 0.036" 0.044"
A single sheet:
0.1mm 0.18mm 0.23mm
0.0045" 0.0075" 0.0085"
I also tried the very unscientific test of using my laptop at max brightness
pictures of stack of five, then a single sheet
then a more focused single sheet one (to demonstrate you can see through the whatever_these_are's but not the index cards)
This is somewhat surprising but my paper does seem pretty thin seeming, so I also measured some pages from a handout from a CS class
five sheets: 0.51mm 0.095"
single sheet 0.1mm 0.004"
(again measured twice, not converted)
I'm still a bit surprised
using these metric numbers averaging 5 * single sheet and stack of 5
and considering the difference between those values
paper these index handout
0.101 0.18 0.226 0.101
+/-0.01 +/-0.0 +/-0.04 +/-0.01
standard paper as 0.100-0.102mm
these as exactly 0.18mm
index cards as 0.222-0.230mm
these are 176-180% paper thickness but only 0.78-81% index card thickness
