I am utterly fascinated by anything university and anything British. This book was the best of both. Oxford is one of my favorite places to visit in the world. The author is possessed of the requisite sardonic British humour and the information, as well as the entertainment, is nonstop. A must-read if you are at all interested in the subject.

Format: Hardcover
This is an uncommon book indeed. The book is actually a little difficult to categorize. In one hefty volume, Sager provides a walking guide of the two universities, an architectural history and review, a literary review and a variety of comments on historical figures, whether students, dons or benefactors. In general, the book was enjoyable for its breadth of coverage and the author's humorous comments. It was tedious in its detail at times, particularly in the Cambridge section. The book was originally written in German. The translation into English (by David H. Wilson) is magnificent.
