Now comes the third revised, described in the introductory note as "a modest exercise, designed to incorporate changes which would not fit into successive reprintings and to include some updating wanted for a projected online version." The book of Acts outlines the establishment of the Christian Church after the resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. This dictionary helps bridge a gap of topical knowledge from the closing of the canon in Revelation by John in the end of the 1st century, all the way to the 21st century church. It addresses every key ecumenical council, vital creed, notable characters and influential figures since the end of the Apostolic Age. This dictionary gives breadth to people, places, doctrines (both orthodox and heretical) to a somewhat lost period of time between 100 A.D. and 500 A.D.

Many people espouse that church history is granted to the Roman Catholic church and that couldn’t be further from reality. The reality is that this dictionary, partnered with Everett Ferguson’s, Church History, will establish clearly in your mind that the orthodoxy of the Christian faith was well grounded by early church fathers who were first hand disciples of the Apostles of Christ. In sum, these early church fathers were only a single generation away from the life of Jesus Christ. In such recording and orally passed down traditions, they men established what we practice today as the Christian faith. This dictionary is a vital and workable resource to any disciple or teacher of the Christian faith.

Having become thoroughly familiar with the Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church in Seminary years ago, I purchased a copy of the most recent edition to use as a reference while studying Eamon Duffy's, "The Stripping of the Altars:" An excellent, revised history of Catholic England, beginning in 1400, and the several ruptures it received to its Catholicism during the Reformation period extending from 1530 to 1580. The Oxford Dictionary was indespensible in Seminary and is so once again. It seems especially useful for research in the major, historic Christian Churches of the West, i.e. the Roman Catholic, and the Anglican Communion.

何故なら、おそらく日本語版は分量の問題で少し文章が省略されたりしているからである。
特に聖公会の関係者や、英国の神学やキリスト教に興味のある人はこの1冊は持っておいて損はしない。
日本のキリスト教辞典には載っていない、英国の神学関係の語彙はほぼカバーされているものである。
