My wives Forester will pop the check engine light if you do not get the gas cap screwed down tight enough. We learned the hard way in the middle of the night in rural Colorado and then again in Florida. When the check engine light comes on you no longer can use the cruise control until you reset the code. This will help you reset the code quick and easily.

Amazing value. Ten minutes after it arrived in the mail I read and reset my daughters 2002 Toyota Highlander code BEFORE I discovered the instruction book sandwiched between the layers of the shipping cardboard.

Most places charge you more just to read a code for more than this unit costs. I used the internet to find the OBD-2 connector for my daughter's Highlander (just under the coin tray on the lower left of the dash) ; the hardest part of the operation .

I have never used a code scanner before and I was easily able to follow the simple instructions on how to use it. Really wish I had bought this years ago. This is exactly what they use at Auto Zone. Pull the code, then Google the code. Simple as that. There's even some basic code definitions in the manual.

Works great on my 2005 Buick, took a few times to figure out but now I can identify the problem via a code that is listed on a booklet that comes with the scanner allowing me to either fix it myself (and turn off warning light after fix) or know whats wrong before I take it to mechanic. Great tool to have and you can't beat the price.
Up date, 2 years later, still works great, same car, keep it in glove box to turn off emission control light, comes on every once in a while, mechanic says catalytic converter may need to be replaced, but he says it's ok for a while, ok to turn off light but to keep him informed if it continues or code changes. Saves me a very expensive repair that I can monitor and save for. Thanks

This cheap ($15) tool deserves the "round file" which is where it's headed. I had a "Check Engine" light on my Subaru 2003 Outback, but when attempting to find and report the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) this product would connect but found nothing -- " No Codes".

I then purchased a competing product, the "Autel AutoLink AL319 OBD II & CAN Scan Tool". The $30 Autel handily found, read out and interpreted the trouble code, and allowed me to clear the code and turn off the light.

They look very similar, but the difference is huge.

Don't bother with this poorly engineered "tool", buy the Autel. I am a verified purchaser, and have no relationship with either company.

I'm giving it four stars because it was cheap. Not because of the great instructions. I actually had to start the car and then plug it in. Its the only way it worked for me. It's not the way the instructions tells you to do it. But it kept giving me errors until the car was running first. It worked on my car and my wifes this way. In the end, I got a cheap scanner that works. That's what I wanted.

Well this review isn't going to tell you much. When my check engine light came on last week, I ordered this scanner tool to check it out (car is now out of warranty). After being on for five days, the morning I was going to get the scanner tool, to check engine light went off, apparently the car feared this scanning tool and started flying (driving) right, lol. Anyway, it looks like it would work, handy manual has all kinds of codes listed. If I ever get to use it, I'll update this review.
Update: 11/29/2019. Still have it, it works great on my Suburban. My Hyundai still has not had another MIL. Last year my girlfriends Hyundai Tucson had an MIL, check it with this scanner and showed a problem with the fuel injection manifold. She took it to the dealership and sure enough the manifold had cracked and needed replacing.

I had a persistent check engine light on my car for weeks. This little device cost about 1/10 of what the garage charges to pull your codes. I had lean bank 1 and lean bank 2 randomly. Turns out there was a small tear in the boot from my air filter box to the throttle body. For $15, you can't beat this! It allows you to clear all of your faults and also run a diagnostic to see if you would pass an emissions check. It shows active faults and pending faults as well. Money well spent.
