About the Author
Lyman Frank Baum was born in Chittenango, New York, on May 15, 1856. Over the course of his life, Baum raised fancy poultry, sold fireworks, managed an opera house, opened a department store, and an edited a newspaper before finally turning to writing. In 1900, he published his best known book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Eventually he wrote fifty-five novels, including thirteen Oz books, plus four “lost” novels, eighty-three short stories, more than two hundred poems, an unknown number of scripts, and many miscellaneous writings. Baum died on May 6, 1919. He is buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, in Glendale, California.

One thing I did notice that I had missed at first, I do not have the complete second book. In volume one, part of The Marvelous Land of Oz is missing and was replaced with The Road to Oz. Volume two has The Road to Oz and it is the complete story. When you get the collection, check to see that all volumes have the complete books in them.
The interior features a crisp resetting of the original text but does not include illustrations. It's a bit more suitable for adults or older kids. For storytime with a younger child, I'd recommend finding a version of these books that includes the original illustrations.
The covers immediately start trying to curl, so keep them pressed together either in the included cardboard box or on a shelf. Of course, keeping them in the cardboard box may not be an option because the book pages seem to expand the more you handle them, meaning that you may have difficulty fitting them back in the box. I don't know if these issues impact the hardcover version of this boxed set (if it's just the paperbacks, I'd recommend getting the hardcovers instead).
