This year we have a new puppy and brought him along camping with us. I was able to fit all 3 air mattresses, the 5 ft table, and the large dog crate inside the tent with room to spare. I use a 10x20ft tarp underneath to keep it clean and protect it from any rocks/sticks I missed.
I also waterproofed the outside twice now and have never had an issue getting wet. And we've been through some pretty serious and scary storms in this thing. But everything stays dry as a bone. It's easy to put up and take down. I'm a 5'5 female and I can get the whole thing up on my own in under 10 minutes and put away again in under 15.
I have 2 kids ages 8 and 10 who have put this tent thru hell and it's still not showing signs of wear. I do think I'll be getting them their own tent next year or maybe giving them this one to share with the dog and getting a new one for my husband and I. But it's to no fault of the tent. The tent is everything it needs to be for our family of 4+1dog
*The tent is HUGE
*It is as advertised
*Super easy to put up and take down
*Does NOT leak like sieve
*It is water RESISTANT not water PROOF (big difference folks)
*The seams are good
*the poles are high quality
*It DOES come with a rain fly (as pictured)
*Make sure you get the right model. There is another one that looks EXACTLY like this, but there is one number in the model # that is different, and it does NOT have the doors on either end. (The ones on the shelf in Walmart do NOT have the doors!)
I spent a long time looking at tents before settling on this one. Like everyone else, I read the negative reviews to get an idea of what some of the problems might be. I really think that most of these complaints arise from one of three things: 1. You happened to be the one to get the rare dud. Just send it back and get a replacement. 2. You did NOT read the instructions nor the product description and expect it to be water PROOF, when it is not. You need to take steps to assure it will not leak in certain conditions. 3. You didn't set it up right. Don't you know you need to set your tent up BEFORE you go camping, to make sure everything is there, works right, and is as expected??!!
Anyway...I took my own advice, and set this up in my backyard. By myself. I am about 5'8 (a woman) and I had NO problem getting it put together and upright in under half an hour. With two people, knowing what you are doing, I would estimate it to be a 15 minute job. Seriously.
I was very impressed with the quality of the poles and connection points. My ONLY concern so far, is for one of the seams where the large poles (main cabin area) goes in. Where it is double seemed at the floor, the stitching stretched quite a bit. I am not convinced it won't tear out after a few uses....but I could very well be wrong. I'm not marking it down for this, because so far it is fine.
I can literally stand up in the middle and extend my arm all the way over my head before my hand touches the top (inside). It is THAT tall. LOVE it. Of course, it slopes down to either end...but there is still ample room for a cot. The design still allows for some headroom.
I was able to get the rain fly on by myself also, without too much fuss. I left it up for over three days....and for one of those it rained quite hard. The morning after the rain, I found a little water inside. BUT...I discovered it was my own fault. First of all, I expected SOME water with that much rain, because I haven't sealed the seams, and the directions for the product suggest doing so, since it isn't water proof. Where it leaked, was at either end, at the base of the sloping doors. When I finished setting it up, I had two extra stakes that I couldn't figure out where they went. WELL...they were supposed to pull the door covers on the ends away from the mesh screen underneath. You see, with these non water proof tents, any point where the fabric touches something, you have a potential for leaking. By not staking the lower portion of the doors away from the mesh, it created a huge surface that was in contact with the screen underneath. I'm surprised it didn't leak more. I think that most of the leakage complaints are coming from people that did the same thing. My only fault to the manufacturer would have to be that they aren't clear enough in their instructions as to where the stake-down points are at. This should be included in the diagram to assure nothing is missed. (the loops are black and blend in with the lower portion of the tent and are easy to miss)
I just got done taking the tent down by myself and it was even easier than putting it up. It passed the 'will it fit back in the bag' test with flying colors! Not only that, but I got it to go back in on my FIRST try. Never had that happen before!
SO...I HIGHLY recommend this tent. I purchased it from another supplier for only $139. An unbelievable price.
