So as my wife has taken ownership of my Yeti's by her legal state rights given to her by marriage... and I did not feel like spending another $40 for a Yeti yet again, the Ozark Trail version was perfectly priced for a replacement that will never leave my work for fear that my wife will gain a 3rd cup and I will be back at 0. :)
To sum it up. Pretty much the same as Yeti and Rtic but at a much cheaper price. Keep in mind that Walmart has them for just under $10.
the attached video is taken 8/5/16, well after the kayak trip where I had to throw the cup on a gravel river bank. I am very impressed with the very minor amount of damage the cup sustained. 18/10 Stainless is tough stuff. I have some Contigo cups that sustain major damage just from a simple drop on the ground. This damage could easily brush out with some sand paper and a wire brush.
These cups are tough. I decided to take this cup on a kayak trip with my family. This was not white water trip. Just a nice river trip. There are a few hairy bends and one of them tested my cups durability. We started out on the river at about 10 am. Naturally this is still well with in my coffee zone. Because of the ample size of this cup, I still had a sufficient amount of coffee remaining. I contemplated leaving my Ozark in the car while we floated. but the piping hot Duncan donuts deliciousness was haunting me. I noticed the kayaks we rented had a cup holder. So I figured why not. My cooler has a cup holder as well, so when the coffee is finished, I have a safe place to store the cup. Well about an hour in to the float with my coffee nearly finished we entered a hard bend. This is usually no problem. I have years of experience in canoes. However in this situation I was the follower. The kayak in front of me got sideways. I tried to slow and maneuver around. My toddler in front got nervous and because of his high center of gravity, the canoe tumbled. I knew I was likely to lose both my sweet boy and my cup.. SO I quickly tossed the cup to shore, and grabbed the boy. After getting safely to shore with the boy, who was wearing outstanding floatation, I inspected the cup I had just thrown 20 yards on to a gravel bar It did have some superficial scratches, but no dents. I was amazed. I expected at least a dent or two.
I am drinking hot coffee form this cup as I write this. My cup has a little more character now, and a good story behind it. It still serves me lots of hot coffee. What's not to love. At the price point, I would not hesitate to use this cup in most adventures. The only potential downside to its durability, is 18/10 stainless is a bit heavy, and 30 oz of coffee weighs nearly 2 lbs by its self. Your drinking arm will have a sweet little pump going! In fact, I consider my morning coffee, 3/4 of my daily workout routine. It keeps me more than capable of working things out , "the usual way". I loved that super bowl commercial!!
As you will read below, I bought this cup with my own money. These opinions are mine, based on my experiences with this cup. No one ahs tried to influence me, or my opinion. I don't care if you buy this cup or not. My only intention was to entertain you for a moment with some of my experiences. I hope you find this helpful. When it stops being helpful, I will stop updating the review.
This past weekend we took a trip to Disney for the day. We stopped at McD's for breakfast @ 0630 in Lakeland FL on our way. When we were done eating our breakfast, I gulped down my hot coffee I brought from Home in this Ozark tumbler, and poured the remains of my cold coke from McD's in the hot tumbler. The ice melted rather quickly, as I knew it would in a hot tumbler. So I sipped on the soda while driving the remaining half hour to Hollywood studios. We wanted to get there early to ride Tower of terror with out a long wait. We parked at the part around 730 to 8am, and I left the 4/4 full tumbler in the van. It was around 97 Saturday. We finished at the park around 1230 and got back to the van around 1pm. I took a drink of the coke, and it was still cold. My wife scoffed at me. "Why are you drinking that?" I said, its still cold!. she took a sip, and then proceeded to finish it for me. Her's was still in the Mcd's cup, and was the temperature of hot bath water. I would estimate the temp in our van was 125 to 135 degrees. She said I am impressed, I thought it was silly to buy that cup.
These cups work great for temp preservation, and they fit in cup holders. I am still liking the purchase, and I use it almost every day, except the days I ride my bicycle to work, for obvious reasons. On those days, I use my 20 oz (17oz in reality) contigo, because it is spill proof.
So I have been enjoying this Ozark tumbler. But mine does have one small issue. The seal tends to roll out of its seat and makes the lid difficult to remove and replace. Well I solved the issue and upgraded the cup at the same time. The fix is not free, but it is sort of fun, in a poser sort of way.
I happened to be in Ace Hardware the other day. I was oogling the Weber grills. This is something I like to spend my free time doing. I do it once or twice a week. it is a personality flaw I know. Anyway, Ace is where I discovered the Yeti brand. So on my way out of the, with my heart filled with Weber Genesis S330 dreams, I happened to notice on the Yeti Kiosk, Yeti rambler replacement lids for $4.99. Now I only invested $9 and change in my knock-off Ozark 30 oz tumbler. So $4.99 is no small fee for a lid. But yet $4.99 is not much to spend to make my Ozark tumbler a much better cup. I knew the lid would fit, because I tried my buddy's lid on and it fit perfectly, in the Rambler/Ozark comparison. So I bought the Yeti lid. it fits perfect. it comes off and on perfectly. Best of All now I look at the Yeti logo on my Ozark tumbler. So for about half the cost of the yeti tumbler of my dreams (right next to the Weber Genesis S330 dreams, that is) I have a very nice, and highly functional Rambler type cup. I really enjoy it, and t its price point I can use it during projects and not worry too much about it.
In full disclosure, I went the cheap route on the Ozark, because we recently moved and I have been bleeding cash in the new house project. When life catches up, I likely will treat my self to the original Yeti. But hey, for now, I have the very next best thing. It keeps my coffee hot for as long as 30 oz of coffee can last. And it keeps my ice water icy cold on my night stand all night. I always have cool water to drink when I am in the garage working on my endless project list. And living in south Florida, an ample supply of cool water is essential.
If you bought the Ozark and the lid bugs you too, you have two real choices, buy the Yeti rambler your originally wanted, or buy the lid. You can not go wrong with either. Yeti is a great brand with great service. Ozark is affordable.
Side note, I get asked no less than twice a day if my cup is "one of those Yeti Thingys". I always answer truthfully that it is a knockoff. Though I am sure I will further confuse gawkers with the Yeti lid, caveat emptor.
OK, so as an avid Amazon Prime user, I must admit I did not purchase this tumbler on Amazon.
I did not even learn about it on Amazon.
My thrifty side is registered with Walmart for the saving catcher. So I got an email from Walmart that mentioned this tumbler. Well I happen to be longing for a yeti Tumbler. I noticed this cup looks strikingly like a Yeti tumbler, down to the details on the lid.
I do not own a Yeti Tumbler because, well I could not justify spending $40 on myself for a cup. I figured I would drop some hints and allow my family members to gift it to me for fathers day.
Well after discovering this Ozarks Trail cup in the Walmart email, I just had to try it. So I bought it and it is great. I compared it to a co-workers 30 oz yeti. They look exactly a like, nearly every detail is the same aside from the logo. The lids match perfectly and are interchangeable.
On to the actual review.
I washed it out last night before bed. I put half ice and filled with water. I drank most of the water over night, but in the morning it still had most of the ice in it. Probably 1/3 of the cup was ice as opposed to 1/2 when I filled it. Obviously the water temp was higher than the ice temp which would have melted some of the ice. The fact so much ice remained, considering the lid is somewhat open, and non insulated, is fairly marvelous to me.
So this morning I dumped the ice out and filled the cup with hot tap water to warm the stainless. I was going to fill it with hot coffee as soon as the coffee maker was done. Then drink it on my way to work, and through-out the morning.
I filled the cup at 7 AM with piping hot coffee.
I put the lid on and set it aside until I left for work at 8.
I sipped on it, on the ride to work. It was still very hot, not gulpable. By maybe 10 Am I was able to take larger drinks of coffee, but it was still suitably hot, and remained so until it was fully consumed by 11AM.
I then refilled it with ice water for lunch after cooling the cup off with some cool tap water. Nearly all the ice remained as I finished that cup of ice water by 1pm.
Will it keep Ice frozen all day, or coffee hot all day. I will probably never know. I drink it too fast to be sure. But will it keep ice water super cold to the last drop, and will it keep coffee sufficiently hot to the last drop. No question, yes it will.
This cup is large. Luckily for me I have large hands. A smaller person may opt for the 20 OZ cup.
Side tip. This cup will fit down inside a 44 OZ foam cup from the gas station. I will be doing that when I drink from this cup while working on projects. I tend to knock things over when I am in the zone. I would hate to damage the beauty of this cup with a scratch from a drop on concrete. So I'll use the disposable foam cup as a lifeproof-otterbox (think iPhone) for my beautiful new cup. Sure $10 bucks is not much money, may as well keep it looking nice.
I am also going to look for a sandblaster to do some custom work on these to give to my customers at Christmas. I may have my company logo put on there. I am in logistics. So many of my customers sit at desks all day. I'll bet a perfect cup like this will sit right on their desk with my company logo looking right at them. Win win for me.
My water stays cold through all my 8-12 days, and I can't believe I waited so long to buy one!!! I would be the #1 spokesperson if I could for Ozark Trail. The price and quality of these cups are astonishingly incredible.
