OZZY OSBOURNE-THE OZZMAN COMETH: During a decades long career that's included co-founding heavy metal, small critter decapitation and MTV's inexplicably popular "reality" stab THE OSBOURNES, OZZY OSBOURNE may be as surprised as anyone to be one of the last men standing. THE OZZMAN COMETH concentrates mainly on his post-SABBATH output, other than a demo of WAR PIGS and a fierce, double-speed concert take on PARANOID. RANDY RHOADES' axe-propelled juggernauts CRAZY TRAIN, MR. CROWLEY and I DON'T KNOW represent OZZY's best solo work...would he have even HAD a solo career without RHOADES?...but that era's hard rockin' glory is sorely diminished by synth-intrusive power ballad dreck like MAMA I'M COMING HOME and IF I CLOSE MY EYES FOREVER. To make matters worse, radio staples STEAL AWAY, I DON'T KNOW and FLYING HIGH AGAIN aren't here at all. Smart shoppers may be better off spinning their well worn copies of BLIZZARD OF OZZ in lieu of picking up this "half a Greatest Hits" collection.

Although this is Ozzy's Greatest Hits, it's far from over for the Ozzman. This is merely an excellent marketing plan to bring his music to a point of origin to draw new listeners, and make everyone familiar with his music for when his new album comes out early next year. It's filled with great songs from his early days with Black Sabbath, his days with Randy Rhoads, and his more recent times with Zakk Wylde. This is great for the new fan, or even the diehard fan who just wants a nice collection for the road.

I haven't listened to it yet, but it is a greatest hit double cd (whic I got at an AWESOME price) with previously unreleased songs & an INTERVIEW with the Ozman himself! Get it at awesome prices while they last as I think this is set is easily worth double what I paid for it (although I am ecstatic what I was able to buy it for otherwise I wouldn't have been able to afford it otherwise!).

Ozzy Osbourne has a long carriere. He has sung in Black Sabbath 10 years and 20 years solo. How good can one CD capture it? The album starts with two Black Sabbath classics...actually they are old basement recordings: "Black Sabbath" and "War Pigs". There's a great represention some of the albums...they have really chosen the best songs from some albums. I think "Mr. Crowley", "Crazy Train", "Over the Mountain", "Bark at the Moon", "Shot in the Dark", "No More Tears", "I Don't Want to Change the World", "Mama, I'm Coming Home" are excellent choices. "Crazy Babies" is a strange choice. "Miracle Man" was one his live classics, so I would prefer to it. Also "I Just Want You"? "Perry Mason" is an all-time classic, why isn't it here? "Goodbye to Romance" was Ozzy's first solo song, a kind of farewell song to Black Sabbath. It's not a good one but it had to be included here. "Paranoid" and "I Don't Want to Change the World" are great live versions. They are fast and powerful! The new song "Back on Earth" is kind of creepy one. I think it is one of the best songs Ozzy has ever sung.
Stars: Mama, I'm Coming Home, Back on Earth, Bark at the Moon, Crazy Train, Mr. Crowley

I first imagined that Ozzy was just another really strange death metal artist with no skill or talent. One of my friends played me the tape of "The Ozzman Cometh" one day and boy was I wrong! While the first two songs did put me off, i was absolutely surprised with the amount of greatness Ozzy has. I eventually borrowed the tape from him and haven't given it back since. I later purchased the CD.
Although it doesn't appeal much to a long-time Ozzy fan, this stuff is great for anyone who's new to the world of Ozzy Osbourne such as myself.
Only thing disappointing about this album are perhaps the first two songs that are probably only good to listen to if you got a decent set of stereos with the volume cranked up loud.
After that, the real music kicks in with a soft tune, "Goodbye to Romance", followed by one of my personal favorites, "Crazy Train". All of the songs have really awesome riffs. Inside the booklet, Ozzy mentions why he picked these songs for this album. One sad thing is that "No More Tears" has been condensed to last only 5 minutes. Why not just keep it to the original 7 minutes?!?!?
The only thing i'm a bit disappointed about is the second cd that comes with this. The two extra songs were just as bad as the first two on the first cd. And the interview wasn't really that great since all Ozzy did in it was yell and cuss everytime. Ozzy could have at least added some more hit singles into that second CD.
So, without those old demo songs, i'd say this is a pretty strong album. I recommend it for new fans to Ozzy Osbourne.

You can't leave out "Flying High Again", "Perry Mason" or "Miracle Man"... that made me mad... and by including "I Just Want You", it kind of took away some of the glitter.... but it is an enhanced CD loaded with extras (at least the one I have is... I have the two CD version.. It has 5 music videos.. "Perry Mason", "I Just Want you", "Crazy Train", "Crazy Babies" and "Paranoid" it also has a "Smash Ozzy's Bones" game, kinda like a "Whack a mole" game... Very addicting! ) so it kind of takes your mind off the track selections.... Well anyways, they did include "Mr.Crowley" and "Crazy Train" which are both classics and we should be grateful.... Peace
