It had been 12 or 13 years since I last played this game. Why? Because my Super NES system went kaput again for the second time in 2002 Then I started spending a ton of time on the internet and there was not enough time for a strategy game like PTO II. But last month I decided to purchase a replica Super NES machine. Then I bought another game and I was again off to the races. While the graphics are now 20 years or more old it still holds its own for a game released in 1995. When I first bought the game in 1997 I couldn't stop playing it.

This game is like a video game version of Axis & Allies. The only difference is you are relegated to Asia and the Indian and Pacific Oceans. But that is more than enough for you to carve out your own empire. Playing Japan in the early part of the war gives you a major advantage. But if you are Japan at the end of the war you are playing against a stacked deck. Playing America after 1943 makes you a cinch to win in any scenario the computer offers. I once played America in 1944 and was awed by their military power. Japan simply had no chance after Midway.

This is a game where you could play for weeks of real life time if you so choose (Which Is Equivalent To Months Of Game Time). I can tell you that the Campaign themes are my favorite scenarios and they are much better than the Short Scenarios. You control the navy and marines while having only tertiary control of the ancillary forces such as your allies and your nation's army. But if used properly they can be of major assistance to you mainly because your marines can't do everything and be everywhere at once.

PTO II will test your intelligence, strategic initiative and short tactics and at the same time increase your knowledge of the political situation in the 1940s.

When I first played this game I couldn't figure anything out. It may take a lot of playing but eventually you will figure it out. If you like games that get into a lot of detail you will love this game. This game is a "sit down and play for weeks" kind of game. Graphics are not good but it was never made for graphics it was made for you to think.

This is a game that can keep you busy for months. It is a turned based strategy game set during WWII in the Pacific. You can play as the Allies or the Japanese. You will objectives that differ depending on the side you and what scanerio play. You will build fleets, airplanes and raise ground units to wage war on the opposing faction. In the game you play the Naval faction of each side and will need to support the Armies objectives as well. You will use research to develop new planes, ships and weapons. You will have budget meetings where you try to get budget points for your Navy and spend them on research and development as well as to build your combat forces. You will fight Naval fleet battles, submarine attacks on fleets and shipping, you will watch simulations of ground and air attacks as well. You can have your fleet bombard enemy shore bases to soften them up for your amphibious assualt. Some of scanerios are Pearl Harbor, Midway, last year of war and option to fight the entire war. You can also play a two person version of the game where one player is the Allies and the other is the Japenese.
