If you are on the fence about this laser bore sight then don't be...it works as it should and you're sure to be pleased with it.
:NOTE: This isn't a cat-toy laser that you would find in a dollar store and it's fairly powerful...using it to play with a pet or to irritate other people isn't really a good idea as serious injury to the eyes can occur if you do so. I'm only saying this because my wife thought it would be fun to use the laser to play with our cats and I had to put the brakes on that whole situation asap.
By the way, this laser works best in low light conditions such as indoors, dusk or dawn. I could clearly see it outdoors at dusk on a 200 yard target. In late morning, overcast conditions I could only see it clearly at 25-30 yards, but not much after that.
After use, the unit fell out of the bolt action (Ruger American Ranch 5.56) easily. With the AR-15, it did not fall out, but a gently nudge with a cleaning rod, and then it fell right out. This is worth the money.
It did stick in my chamber, though I didn't allow the action to slam closed so it would try to eject it like an actual round. If you use this, have a cleaning rod handy to pop it back out. (very little resistance, and very easy to push out with the rod)
Batteries are small, and only one set is included. Don't expect super long battery life. However, it shouldn't take more than a minute or so to put this in, adjust your sight/scope to the dot, and remove it. It's not made to run for hours straight.
The short answer is: great value for the money. If you need a laser bore sight for your .223, this is as good an option as any.
