LUMIX DMC-G7KK Interchangeable Lens Camera Kit with 14-42mm Lens – Black
The revolutionary Panasonic LUMIX G7 offers over 24 compact lens options built on the next generation interchangeable lens camera standard (Micro Four Thirds) pioneered by Panasonic. Its “mirrorless” design enables a lighter, more compact camera body, while also offering cutting-edge video, audio, creative controls, wireless, intelligent-focusing, and exposure technologies not possible with traditional DSLRs. And with our exclusive LUMIX 4K Ultra HD video pause and export as a 4K Photo mode, you’ll never again miss that one shot that perfectly captures a scene.
A Better Choice for High Image Quality
The LUMIX G7’s 16 megapixel sensor operates much like the larger sensors found in traditional DSLR cameras. The G7, however, also features a next-generation intelligent image processor that produces video and photos free from artifacts that degrade image quality. You can even capture stunning, high-quality images in low light conditions up to an amazing ISO 25,600. The LUMIX G7 also compensates for common image-quality problems caused by shooting with a small lens aperture.
4K PHOTO Function — Never Miss that Perfect Moment
Those once-in-a-lifetime special moments are often missed due to slow focusing, slow burst modes, or simply not pressing the shutter button at the right time. The LUMIX G7 features exclusive 4K Ultra HD* video technology you can use to pause and extract that perfect photo moment in time as a high resolution photo [up to 8 megapixel]. With 4K Ultra HD video at 30 frames per second, you’ll never miss a photo again.
*Actual resolution: up to QFHD 3840 x 2160p, 30 fps, 100Mbit/s
4K Video — 4X More Detail Than Full HD
4K Ultra HD video* delivers a far more intense viewing experience when compared to Full HD, with 4X times the number of pixels. Whether shared through social media in 4K or resized to Full HD TV, your video files will feature superior definition and crisper detail than those originally filmed in Full HD with a camcorder.
*When recording videos in 4K, use a card rated as UHS Speed Class 3 [U3]. Native 4K resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels
4K PHOTO Function— Never Miss the Perfect Moment Ever Again
The G7’s 4K PHOTO function allows you to play, pause, and extract individual high-resolution photos from 4K Ultra HD video filmed at 30 frames per second so you’re assured of capturing those split-second magical moments.
4K Photo Modes – Three Ways to Get the Perfect Shot
The 4K PHOTO function includes three different modes, all leveraging the G7’s 30-frames-per-second video capture rate.
Continually captures 8 megapixel photos when the shutter button remains pressed.
-4K Burst S/S (Start/Stop)
Simply record a 4K video and then Play, Pause and Extract any frame as an 8 megapixel photo. It’s the easiest way ever to capture that perfect photo.
4K Pre-Burst mode initiates a 4K video sequence one second before and after the shutter button is pressed. This gives you an extra 60 images from which to select and is perfect for those unpredictable, spur-of-the-moment photo ops.
Featuring a retro modern design, the LUMIX G7 is smaller and lighter than traditional DSLRs, yet still provides intuitive, easy access to common functions. Easily control aperture and shutter settings with the front and rear dials while making white balance and ISO adjustments on the fly. You can also assign favorite settings to any of the six function buttons,* or simply capture the shot by activating the exclusive 4K PHOTO Mode from the feature drive mode dial.
* Six buttons on the body and five buttons on the menu.
High-Visibility View Finder
A high-resolution (2,360k-dot) OLED Live View Finder on the LUMIX G7 features 10,000:1 contrast and perfect framing, so you’ll enjoy high visibility—even under direct sunlight. Plus, the tilt/swivel touch-display lets you further adjust the screen for optimum clarity.
Fast and Precise Auto Focus Tracking
Intelligent auto focusing [AF] tracks the color, size, and motion vector of the subject, enabling quick and precise focus lock. So you’ll shoot with confidence without worrying about blurry results.
High Speed Auto-Focusing with DFD Technology
The LUMIX G7 utilizes Panasonic’s exclusive Depth-From-Defocus (DFD) Auto Focus (AF) technology* which instantly calculates the distance to subjects, then quickly adjusts the focus. Enjoy AF speeds up to 0,07 seconds** and burst shooting speeds with Continuous Auto Focus [AFC] of 6 frames per second. Our DFD AF technology also enhances focus stability when shooting video.
* Contrast AF with DFD technology requires Panasonic brand Micro Four Thirds lenses.
** In AFS, with the H-FS14140.
Better Control for More Enjoyable Photography
A manual “focus peaking” color outline indicates the exact in-focus area along with depth-of-field distance.
Shoot silently in hushed settings with a quiet and fast AF System and with no shutter noise.
-4EV low light auto focus lets you clearly capture subjects using only moonlight as a light source.
-Unwire Your Creativity via WiFi
With the Panasonic Image App and a WiFi connection, you can control various functions on the LUMIX G7 using a smartphone or tablet device, such as view, focus, shutter release, or geotagging. Then, share your photos on your favorite social networks directly from your mobile device.
Flexible Expandability Options
The LUMIX G7 can be combined with the DMW-FL580L External Flash, the DMW-MS2 Stereo/Shotgun Microphone and many other accessories. It’s also compatible with newer BUS Class UHS-I/UHS-II SDXC/SDHC SD cards capable of storing high-resolution 4K videos, and meeting the demands of 4K Photo and RAW mode burst shooting.
*When recording videos in 4K, use a card rated as UHS Speed Class 3 [U3].

The 16 mp sensor has been refined and provide good high iso performance. RAW files are easy to work with. The headline feature 4K video is top notch although you have limited manual controls for video recording. Speaking of controls, this camera bristles with dials, levers, and buttons. It is a call back to the original G1 and G2 and I love it. Handling is top notch, everything falls into place and all functions are within easy reach for fast access. The grip is superb and I really think this is the best handling camera out there. Auto focus is fast and accurate, but that also depends on the lens.
So what's not to like? Not much. The build materials are plastic, but overall build quality is quite good. No in body stabilization, this is a big deal to some. I don't know why, I don't think it is such a big deal. No weather sealing but we are talking about a mid level camera here, if you want to check all the boxes you will be looking at a more expensive camera. Saying that though Pentax manages to weather seal all their bodies so it can be done Panasonic!
Overall, for this price point it is tough to find a better camera. Highly recommended! Use the money you save to get some lenses. Because as good a camera body is, it's really the lens that makes the biggest difference. I see a lot of people upgrading to a new camera expecting to be blown away, but always end up disappointed. Simply because they just use the kit lenses the cameras come with.
If you couldn't tell I really like this camera. I'm a portrait photographer and you can see a lot of my work on Flickr. Just search my name I guess. Happy shooting!

I am coming from a bridge camera (Nikon P510 to be precise), having wanted an upgrade for a long time now. Wanting better image quality, I had shortlisted three cameras: Nikon D5300, Sony A6000 and Panasonic G7. The Nikon and Sony have a major advantage of sensor size and more pixel count (24 MP in both VS 16 MP of the G7), but decided to move forward with G7 mainly because of the 4K video capability. Compared to the D5300, it has more features - more customizable buttons, touch screen, EVF VS Optical Viewfinder and at a lower price point. I had already used my friend's A6000, and honestly I din't like the handling of that camera. It is way too small for my liking, no fully articulating touch screen. The G7 has a lower MP count and a smaller sensor compared to the other two, but the pixel density is about the same as APS-C sensors, so image quality should be more or less the same - it all comes down to the camera's processing. And last, photographer > gear : I have taken some really amazing photos with my Moto G3 phone too.
I haven't tested the video, so cannot really comment on it. Image quality on this camera is damn good. It's sharp and has accurate color reproduction. I think a picture speaks a thousand words, so see the image quality for yourselves here (because I'll keep adding pics here, so you'll also get to know how this camera ages):
Handling is another plus of this camera. It's plastic but feels very solid. The ports are well secured by the flaps, but this camera isn't weather-proof. Not a big deal for me. One of the biggest reasons for me to buy this camera was the fully articulating touch screen, and it is superb. I had no problems seeing it even in direct sunlight, but I prefer viewing through the EVF because it's just so beautiful. Overall very well built camera, but weather-proofing is something that I would have loved to see on it.
One of my biggest complaints is with the lens. It's nice and sharp, but there's this vignetting effect on it when I put on the lens hood. I haven't played around with the camera much as I have just received it a week back, so I don't know if the rings are configurable or not, but sometimes I wish I could configure the manual focus ring to control the aperture.
Overall 5 stars for this camera. It checks all the boxes any beginner/intermediate photographer would want in a camera. I hope this review helps you buy this camera or decide between different cameras.
If you're wanting to film for a while, be sure to get yourself extra batteries! The one it comes with isn't bad, but it won't last you hours of constant filming or just even switching it on/off multiple times and then using it.
Changing the settings helps, too. There were 1 or 2 things that bothered me before I changed the settings - like when I tried to focus on anything, it would show this box all zoomed in, and it would sometimes make the camera lag (only if the ISO was high or if anything was overexposed to light).
Overall, this camera is great! :)
