Anyone seeking confirmation of Kipling's famous poem, "The female of the species is deadlier than the male," will find it amply in Kaye George's clever collection of short stories. The men in several of these prize winning stories tend to be limited, self-centered and unaware of the perils their own conduct has awakened. The women, on the other hand, use the means available to make sure that their predicament is solved - perhaps permanently. The vignettes are memorable. I liked the reaction of a woman going into a pretentious country club wearing as directed exactly the wrong clothing. One can almost sense the rattles! And so I'll be extra careful on the stairs from now on. I look forward to more writing by Ms. George. To paraphrase Sam Spade, this is the stuff that Mildred Pierce was made of.

This is a delightful little book with a big scope. The short stories, some of them very short, start out on the sweet and light side and wind up very, very dark. It's a great way to see George's ability as a writer, to see how a writer can write more than one kind of story within a genre. I plan on passing this along to the nephew of a friend of mine, a kid who says he "doesn't read" -- maybe this will pique his interest.

I enjoyed reading this potpourri of mysterious short stories, each ending with a surprising twist. I liked the varying tones and types of characters, including the story about werewolves.

I loved these stories. Good description and devious plots. They kept me interested until the final outcome. Her use of colloquial language adds depth to the characters.

This eclectic collection of stories is proof, if such were needed, that the most original fiction today is being independently published. Each of these stories is a gem; each unique, connected by George's curious view of the world and the creatures who inhabit it. I love dipping into this book when my brain needs a pick-me-up.
