If you are interested in purchasing a great tool for the open road. And YOU are a truck driver...this product is for you. I am pleased to report MANY facts and opinions as to WHY I love this product. And unfortunately...ONE Negative. First off, you cannot please everyone in the trucking business. As a driver for 9 yrs. I do not even try. PC Miler has tried though and succeeded, on more than one of their products. This particular product 'the NAV540 GPS' is specifically for truck drivers! It is easy to install, easy to see, read & understand. However, the factory set sound is a bit of a bummer. The voice clarity is exceptional, whereas; the level of the voice sound, at it's highest; is hard to hear while YOUR diesel engine is running. Factor in the cb radio, and stereo, plus...the qualcomm...and well, you are not gonna hear it very well. Which is why I praise the screen size, clarity, etc. I wish this unit...(for as much as was paid) could be heard through the existing speakers already installed for the stereo. I wish it had bluetooth so you could at least hear instructions through the cb radio if IT has bluetooth.

At any rate, this particular device has US, and Canadian maps. Unfortunately no maps of Mexico. I have been using this product for 3 months now and have NO complaints with the exception of the aforementioned. This device would be state-of-the-art if it had maps of Mexico, better sound, or alternative options for receiving sound. And a USB port to download updates instantly.

Still, I think you will find that this device is more than handy, as you can...set the voice to either male or female. Set the unit to tell you your eta, distance AND speed. This device WILL allow you to hook up an auxilliary speaker. Keep in mind if you are gonna go that route...

I had used an inexpensive Tom-Tom for a while and was mostly happy, so I thought a truckers GPS would cut out all of the places a semi should try to avoid. In fact that's a good plan, but this GPS has taken me thru many non truck routes and told me to turn down one way roads. One time in Ohio in a small town, just to get through it this GPS must have taken me down every street and alley that there was. Did I mention that the power cord failed in the first week!? I spent $16.00 on a replacement and it was a Tom-Tom replacement because I could not find a PC Miler cord to use. I finally found peace with this GPS and I was learning how to get the best use out of it...then...2days ago...I hooked it up in my truck...and I'll be damned if this piece of wasted plastic didn't work any more. It just won't turn on. No matter how I sweet talk it, I just can't turn it on. So there you have it, I'm out $248.00 plus the shipping I am going to spend to send this trash back to it's maker with a little letter on how to earn and retain customers. Sincerely, Frank from Dayton.

I am quite unimpressed with this GPS unit. As far as navigation goes, it has generally taken me on approved roads and avoids most low clearances etc. I have often run across incorectly labeled exits. Examples: Exit 35A South is actually 35B and that sort of thing. Or turn right on to 14 North which is actually 14 South and that sort of thing. Obviously this is only a tool and the user still needs to read signs and not rely solely on the GPS for guidance. It does what it is supposed to do.

You can save locations but there is only one category: Favorites and there is no way to sort them or arrange them into subcatagories. They stay in the order that you entered them unless you edit one which then goes to the top of the list. The Point of Interest search feature is awful. You can search near and address, in a city, near your location, and along your route. The first two search in a huge radius, (sometimes 200+ miles) and takes a long time to yeild results. Along your route seems to only search the section of road you're currently on. So if the GPS has divided the road into several sections you may not find anything at all. Results are displayed in miles from your current loaction but not in any direction. If you're looking for a place to park like a rest area, it will usually only show the closest. It doesn't show if it is ahead of or behind you only how far awat you are.

Occasionally the unit has gone back to the strat up screen for no apparent reason. It has happened when I am moving the map on the screen as well as when I was driving. Once back into navigation often times my destination was gone and I had to start again.

I bought mine a year ago (when it was about $400) and a map update is going to cost $50? That's simply a very greedy company.

I bought this for my husband. He's a OTR driver and travels all week long. It works great for him. Detailed picture, hazmat routes, and easy to use. Would totally recommend this for other truck drivers.

in a nutshell i had this unit for about 3 months the screen developed a small crack which shortly lead to a completely shattered screen which rendered it useless. When i contacted customer service about the issue they informed me that a cracked screen is the only thing that the warranty does not cover. WOW!!! imagine that. But he did inform me that they could replace the screen for just a hundred dollars. well i gave 330 dollars for it tax and all and now another 100 dollars for 430 dollars geez i wonder how long the new screen will last. boy i tell you what my backside is starting to get a little sore if you know what i mean!!! so i could not recommend this piece of junk to my worst enemy!!! I would like to use another for junk but you know what i mean!!!PC Miler NAV540 All-In-One GPS for Truck Drivers
