After more than a couple decades of building PC's (dating back to the 8086/8088 clone days), I long ago became a firm believer in quality PSUs. With modern CPU, motherboard, and videocard power requirements, gone are the days when you could get away with any old generic PSU that came free with a case. Now I tend to pay as much or more for PSUs as I do those other components. And even quality PSUs can get overloaded or otherwise fail. To wit, my 750W Silencer Quad, which apparently overloaded and melted down the +12v pins on the ATX mobo connector. Fortunately, it didn't fry the mobo and actually continued working as long as I kept the melted plastic cleaned away and the exposed metal socket halves squeezed together to maintain electrical contact. Obviously that wasn't practical in the long term, so I ordered this beefier model to replace it before I RMA'd the 750W. I already have the replacement RMA and will use it in a secondary box. RMA service and responsiveness was excellent, with the replacement shipped out the day after they received the original.

The 950W is as quiet as the 750W was, and has the extra headroom to hopefully avoid overloading it again. For the record, this PC has an i7-860 overclocked to 3.4Ghz, 8GB of DDR3, two Nvidia videocards (GTX-275 + 8800GTS G92 for PhysX processing) driving 3 large LCD monitors, 1 SSD + 3 mechanical HDDs, 5x 120mm case fans, and about a million various things hanging off the USB ports.

What I love about PCP&C is that, unlike many PSU manufacturers, they actually *understate* their PSU capacity. This 950W Silencer MkII is actually rated at 1000W continuous and 1080W peak.

I don't need to go into detail about how good is this psu. You can find many good technical details already said in here. What want to say is that I am very satisfied with my purchased. This is for my first PC build. It looks beautifil and high quality unit and the price is not to bad.

I've used many PC Power & Cooling power supplies over the years and always had great luck. The Silencer Mk II continues in a long tradition of quality, reliability, and performance.

This power supply is a terrific choice if you are running a high end PC with multiple video cards, an overclocked CPU, water cooling, and numerous hard drives. Whatever power connector you need more of, the Mk II has plenty. No more funky power splitters! Further, the connectors are flexible -- its PCIE 12V accessory connectors are designed to support either 6-pin or 8-pin sockets as needed.

The Mk II has a number of nice touches. For example, the fan will keep running for a few minutes after you shut down your PC to pump leftover warm air out of the PC's case. It has a true hard power switch so you can cut the line current to work in the case without unplugging the power cord and losing ground every time.

The best thing I can say about the Mk II is that there isn't much to say about it. You install the power supply, hook it up, and you're golden -- it'll serve you through years of system upgrades. As long as you prefer a power supply with permanent wires, as I do, instead of the modular connectors some supplies use, you can't go wrong with the Silencer Mk II.

I own two of these PSU's and bought another for a friend. The gift unit was DOA (lol go figure) so, I sent him one of mine to replace it as his DOA unit was getting a refund. I have one running in another PC and it is rock solid. I am a long time user of PC POWER and Cooling products and will continue to be for the long term.

I have been using PC Power and Cooling power supplies exclusively for at least ten years now, and they are great. Reliable with good warranties. My friend's power supply died, and I came to Amazon looking for a new one for her and got this one for $150, which was a great price. I decided to buy one for myself to keep for a spare or for my next build. I needed it sooner than I thought, so I'm now buying another one for $30 less!! What a deal! I am also getting a 750 watt one.

My understanding is that OCZ has bought out PC Power and Cooling, so I suspect that these power supplies are a "close-out" deal at $119 with a coupon and rebate to boot. It remains to be seen whether or not the newer ones will have the same quality, but the ones I got are the good, old ones.

I took off one star because these are somewhat old design, lacking the modular feature of newer power supplies. For example, this power supply has four cables for up to four video cards. I don't need three of them (nobody with only one monitor really needs Crossfire or SLI), so I have three huge cables taking up space in my case. But it's well worth the bother to get such a high quality power supply at this price. If you think you'll need a quality 950 watt power supply, jump at this deal while you can.
